I asked this question in another thread, but thought it deserved its own.
.
bumperm,.....no, sitting in by the fire is not the answer. HAHAHA!
.
I did do a search, and didn't really find an answer.
.
The other night, it was -5 deg. F, Northern Iowa, no garage.
If I were to go out and start my Honda 1000.
Does anyone know, is it better to let it warm up in park, or in neutral?
I ask park or neutral, because I know transmissions are different.
Some you have to check the fluid idling in neutral, others idling in park.
What selection does the fluid flow more? More flow, faster warm up.
.
Thanks,
Have a good day

Either both are out of gear. The P1 you warm the engine up to 2 bars, turn off the machine for a few minutes, then check the oil level

A normal automatic transmission, the fluid is usually moving more, either in park, or neutral.
You are saying nothing moves with this transmission until you are in gear moving.
Damn... that sucks. Gonna take a while to warm it up with only the engine bolted to it.
But wait a sec, I thought I read somewhere the engine and trans share the same oil, but different drains. I guess that will help some.
ok, thanks

The engine and DCT transmission share the same oil and warm up together, the subtrans is separate and I don't know if anything is turning inside it in neutral or park or if you have to be moving before it starts to turn and warm up.
I am with you, I think the subtrans, is like a tranfer case. As receiving the power from the transmission, and then sends that power either to the front or rear diffs. If the wheels are not turning, the subtrans would not be moving either.
Thanks

Check your owners manual to make sure.

The sub trans internals are stationary until the clutch applies and starts to move the vehicle.

Basically the pioneer 1000 has a trans oil heater being the trans and engine share the same oil and is coolant feed.So at 1 bar you should be warming your engine oil. This does not warm the sub trans no coolant running to it but will warm from metal to metal contact with the engine block.
