Vipermax 4500 on P1000-5. Used every time I have been to windrock... did have to use a snatch block once on a big ledge. Figured it would be easier on the motor and battery.

with winches you really have to take advise with a grain of salt, unless they do your exact terrain not likely going to apply. for clay soil that has been rutted you are dragging a ton of force, kind of like he said skeg or ice and real wet use needs a reliable winch like the warn 45+ or superwinch terra 45. i seriously beat my winches, the ice/half froze swamp and clay here are the worst you will encounter and i ride couple times a month or more. warns other people use in this always work and i always buy superwinches, they are just as good had some over 12 years with only one contactor wearing out. i use doubling pully and terra 45 on my pioneer because i got it from amazon for 240 plus 20 for the rope.
everyone just useing it here and there to tip it off a rock or up some small loose ruts really never had the terrain for experience to judge. 4500 winch can pick up the whole machine in a second without even working, alot different having 2000 lbs on clay all the way

One thing that I did forget to mention. Along with muskeg we do get a lot of water. I take my Warns apart and fill the planetaries right full of a really good winter or lighter grease. Basically so there is absolutely no room for water. Had good luck with that. Started doing it on the vehicle winches I was running. First one I took apart years ago had a lot of rust and water damage. When I buy a new unit I rip the winch apart and fill with grease. Great success and no downside.

reminds me fatherinlaw had a warn 3500 that stopped after a few years, we have a lot of silty clay gets in everything and he took it apart and greased, has to do that once every few years. I never had to on a superwinch though

I’ve had superwinches apart used in the same situation as the warns with lots of water a mud. Without extra grease they looked the same with rust and water inside.

I was impressed with the power of the Viper but it smoked the motor on it. Emailed company and they sent me new one within first couple hours of the email. Told them the troubleshooting I had done and they said yep bad motor and sent me shipping confirmation shortly after. Hopefully it was bad motor but I will be more careful with it and let it cool off more as we was working it pretty hard. Either way customer service is great

On my second KFI Viper 4500 in two years. Used the first one three times under normal circumstances. Warranty didn’t cover the problem due to moisture inside the casing. Dealer sold me the second for 40% off so I went back down the same road and have yet to use it. My more recent research tells me I shouldn’t have.

Have a lways used Warns with my Jeeps and only a couple issues in my 25 years experience. Truly sealed housing plays a big part in my mind.

So, it's likely over kill but, I just ordered a
Viper Elite 6000 # - 65ft. Amsteel Synthetic Rope UTV Winch for my 1000 5.
More to come once installed and a shake down.

Thanks

Jim

That’s the one I bought and installed couple weeks ago. Very powerful and easy install but I got really stuck in a hole and burnt the motor up trying to get me out. Great customer service though as they had me a new motor to my house within three days with no hesitation. I will be more careful now to let it cool down in between pulls and make sure not to stall it

You got that right!! Is it installed? If so pics please...
It’s installed but you can’t see it because it’s behind the bumper. What I like is it’s plug and play with 1 wire to hook up power

Oh I see. I will have mine prominently displayed right on top of the Tough Country bumper.
