Finally got my winch installed. The KFI mount is super! I put the rocker switch right under the steering wheel. There really isn't a good place for the solenoid, so I removed the tool kit and put it in that hole. I saw a winch installed at the dealer and they put the solenoid under the middle section under seat, seemed WAY to hot an area for it. Directly over exhaust. Under the hood would have been good, but would have needed longer wires than was supplied in kit. Easiest keyed-on wire for me to tap into was the one for the 12v accessary plug under hood. Winch is Superwinch Terra 45.

Also got my hard roof on, I like it way better than the bimini.

Thanks for the pics! Especially the tip on the solenoid. Now, please get it profoundly stuck, and winch it out and let us know how the mount does! :D

Thanks. Just ordered one...

Also got an older new Champion 4500Lb winch off Ebay for $130 + $20 shipping. Now all i need is a Pioneer!

Those bumper tubes connect almost in front of the bracing behind the a-arms. I can't imagine anywhere up front that would be any stronger.

the tubes are very thin and are only spot welded to the frame they are pretty easy to bend the mount might suprise us and be strong enough i really dont know thats why me and bigriver mounted to the vertical frame brace tubes instead the factory honda winch mount also mounts to the vertical tubes

Will a "wide spool" winch fit on this bracket? Seems to be an advantage to pulling power with them.....and also the amount of cable. Not sure if they are worth it? I dont use a winch too often....but if you get stuck in the wild.....more is definately better. Thinking about keeping the capacity up and the price down via cable and wide spool.

My tubes have solid welds on top and bottom, sides have weep holes to let moisture out. This mount uses a wrap around "tube stiffener" piece made out of 3/16" steel where the front bolts on. And, I cant imagine any issues where it connects in the back, because the bolts go through three layers of metal (mount, bumper tube, frame receiver tube) where the bumper slides into the frame. Bigc, you may be right, it might not be strong enough, but it sure looks plenty tough to me. Most truck winches are mounted to bumpers, my Warn X8000 is attached to the bumper of my Jeep. I know thats not apples to apples, but compare the steel thickness on the two machines, then compare weight and it's all about the same.

you could be right it might work perfect if you unbolt the bumper and look at it closely i think you would laugh like i did how light made it is

I installed my Superwich 4500 today with the KFI mount. very impressed, its a great quality piece of metal! Now I just need the plow mount and push tube and I can plow my driveway. i spliced the live wires for the remote directly to the battery so the in/out rocker and remote are active at all times. I installed the remote plug under the hood on the passenger side - there is a space there that is perfect for it.

Also did the first oil change and used Castrol 4T parth-synthetic oil plus a WIX filter. The improvement from new oil is obvious. I didn't do much riding today but up and down the driveway, I could tell right away how much smoother the engine is, and the transmission shifts. I did see some metal in the filter, but not too much.

Had a great time doing all of this! such a quality piece of machinery. I also have a Honda 928TAS snow blower that has been incredibly reliable and useful.

Welcome bbdo, what weight oil did you use? Have you noticed any shift differences?

I used 10-40 because of the odd amount you use in both the Pioneer and Honda Valkyrie end up totaling 7 quarts. It shifts harder and staying in gear longer when first warm but I wasn't sure if that was 10-40 or just oil without the break-in additives.

i almost did 10w-40 but all of the pioneer documents specify up to 30w. i plan to keep this for a long time so, better safe than sorry. there are definitely more choices in the 10w40 though.. also considered the mobil-1 racing oil since they are essentially the same as 4T oils with the added 'bad' lube that make them track use only oils. i think either way, so long as the machine is maintained according to schedule, we will be fine.

I was just going to buy an extra quart of 10w-30 and the SAE service mechanic the dealership had said just use the 10w-40 that's what they put in everything and that's what they were going to put in it if they changed it.
