I sold my 15-year old ATV late last August, thinking I would just replace it with a UTV. Took a month or so to figure out that a P500 would be just about right for a new machine. I liked the real transmission and the idea it could fit in the back of my truck, and my wife liked the cage. Started looking around, none to be found. Dealers within a 500 mile radius had nothing but speculation and an occasional rumor about availability. Saw a used 2018 500 show up at a Can-Am dealer one day, went back with my wife the next day and it was gone. Then the 520s were announced and the waiting lists came out (but no 520s). Local dealers were saying I should plan on maybe a mid-summer delivery if I put down a deposit. Our closest Honda dealer didn’t even have a Pioneer list, but they’d be happy to sell me a RzR.
The 520s started showing up at a few dealers in late January and in February I found a dealer about 300 miles away that had a 520 we could look at least look at. Getting a bit concerned now as we have committed to a Moab trip in May. Hopped in the truck for a road trip, got to look at and sit in a red 520, enough to get the thumbs up from the wife.
Started calling dealers again, still the same story. Noticed the same dealer in central Oregon I got my original ATV from in 2005 is now a Honda dealer too. Called them up, they just had for some unknown reason an extra 520 show up that very day, didn’t even know what color it was yet. I bought it. Had to wait until the Polar vortex hit in full force to pick it up, but at least they were only 120 miles away. Scary seeing jack-knifed 18-wheelers, a Suburban doing 360s at 60mph, even a snowplow sliding off the icy road with the new 520 in the truck bed.
But it’s here. Love it.
