Hey guys, I finally got around to addressing the other half of the crappy tailgate scenario that Honda gave us. I just couldn't live with that flimsy piece of plastic any longer. So, this happened.....

It doesn't bend. It's has a flat surface so your beer won't spill. You can sit on it. And it lays flat with my special cables installed!

I went ahead and made two of them. The second one is listed on ebay....Honda Pioneer 700 Tailgate

Let me know what you think!

I didn't post in classifieds because I'm not sure if it will sell or if I really want to do that many but we shall see.

Thanks! When I started I was worried about the looks being too square or blocky. It might be eye of the beholder, but it seems to look ok. For me it came down to strength over looks anyways.

Forgot to mention here that I tested the HDPE for expansion from 0F to 155F. The point is to avoid a wavy surface.

Ended listing for now. Had a ray of sun cooking one edge of plastic and it buckled. I tested for this but missed one thing. To be continued....

Re-listed the tailgate with a lower price. Never had time to tinker with the slight warping that mine did. But, it hasn't done it again. Might get back into these later in the year.

I like your tailgate, good job.
I was thinking about that yesterday while doing routine maintenance on my chainsaw on the plastic tailgate. Didn't work to good when Premix spilled and it stained the crappy stock gate. My immediate thoughts were I need a flat metal tailgate.

Thanks! If I get to making them again they will most likley have some sort of aluminum as the "work" surface.

Do you have any of your tailgates for sale? Or can you sell the plans and I can build it myself?

Best Regards
Johnnie
No sorry... The "plastic" was just too temperamental to release to "the public"... I ended up replacing the plastic on mine with aluminum sheet. Unfortunately the aluminum makes the tailgate much more expensive. And... after dealing with having my cables cloned by china I wasn't really excited about having my good idea ripped off again. Maybe someday.
