Hi guys,

Thanks for such an active and informative forum.

I bought a P500 last fall and rode it quite a bit in Arizona this winter on rough secondary roads. The 500 felt very tippy to me as those roads were totally washed out and nasty, but I’m not used to a 50” vehicle so maybe that’s normal? I’m using stock wheels.

Question: I’d like to replace those tires to get better traction and clearance, but not increase tippyness and also stay within 50” wide since I live in Idaho and there are restrictions. I’d love some advice on what to do.

Thank you!!

I've put 27s and 26s on many customer units never had any complaints. I run 27s on my own with 1.5 spacers and dont find it tippy at all even without the spacers

If you stay at 50" and increase vehicle height with larger tires, you'll find it is even tippyer (if that's a word). You may be able to put 1" spacers on the rear, as it is narrower than the front, that might allow you to pass through the gates and still improve the tippyness.

Might be time to measure an actual gate and see how wide it is, before deciding what to do.

Do you have spacers on front and back?

What tire size?

How wide does the 500 end up?

If you were local I have the 26x10-12 Sedona Ripsaws for sale that I took off and replaced with the BH 2.0’s.

You can get tires with better traction and stay at 50". If you want more clearance you'll need bigger tires and 50" goes out the window, it'll just be a bigger puckerfest. 27's on stock wheels and no spacers...stick to the roads, it'll fit through the gate and then it'll be comical. 🤣

Maybe a nice 25 could be a good choice for staying at 50" . . .

People that know the gates can chime in. I've heard you can get away with 52ish. The problem with gates is ruts toss roll bars of SXS's into the posts that don't affect ATVs.

I bought 2” spacers for all four wheels. Stock rims, running 27x9-12 super Swampers. I will let you know how that turns out. LOL

Hey ScottB, did you ever get your answer? I live in Idaho too. I am in the market for a P500 and want to upgrade tires when I get it. I am thinking of 26" tires with 1" spacers might be narrow enough to squeeze through the gates, but not sure.

I mean, if you can't ride the 50" trails, what's the point of getting a small 50" sxs?

I ran 27x9’s front and rear on the factory rims and still fit through 50” gates. I ran them at 5psi and I thought it felt a lot better than stock.....IMO it was more “tippy” on the stock tires.

I have the Ripsaws also @Todd627 and really like them, why did you replace yours, they look almost new.
My rig is now an asphalt princess and that was wearing those Ripsaws like crazy. The BH 2.0’s are doing much better. The Ripsaws were awesome tires for off road use though.

I still have stock tires but I bought 1” spacers for the rear tires which puts me at 50” on my 2017. I’d like to go 2” wider on the rig. Haven’t found a forest service enforcement guy to verify it’s ok. It would fit through the gates.
