I have my dads p500 at the house for the next 2 weeks as he's off on a motorcycle trip to Colorado. Never had the chance to ride it til today. I own a p1000. Are these really stock tires sizes 24in??!! Man I must be spoiled cause the ride was rough... well compared to the 1000.

So do I buy a set of 14 in rims for the 500 and put my stock Bighorns off the 1000 on it, or just get a set of 26in tires put on the stock rims?? Looking at what people are doing, 26's seem to feel the best on the 500.

My thinking is 14's with the 27in stock BH's off the 1000 then I can get 28in Tensor Regulators for the 1000.

Its a Farm driven machine, no mudding, no "legal" trail systems. Him buzzing around the farm watching the corn grow.

27's on 14 -vs 26's on stock?

Its also due for its 1st service so I got the next 2 weeks tinkering with the ole mans 500!!

I know you want to reuse your 14" BH's. But that extra side wall with a 12" wheel might help absorb some of the rough you speak of.
Just food for thought.

Ya, 26/27's seem to be a good size for these 500's.

Your probably right. I thought hmmm.... get 14s for the 500 with the 1000's BH's then I can get the Regulators!! Win ..win!!

But I also wanted to hear from 500 owners and get their opinion. I do know one thing these 24in pizza cutters gotta go. Plus 26's seems to be an easy find on CL.

I must say haveing gone from a 700 to a 1000 and riding a 500 for the first time if this 500 tranny was in the 700 and had a bit more top end I dont know if id have a 1000!! fun little machine

I'm running 27"x11"x14" Ripsaws all around. Have been very happy with ride and steering. If you aren't limited to a 50" width, 5+2 offset aftermarket rims add a couple inches, and a little more stability. I've had no rubbing issues with my 27" tires, and enjoy the extra ground clearance.

If Honda thought it was ok for the 1700# P1000 to have 27" tires on 14" wheels, why not the much lighter P500. I know some people ride harder and need the extra sidewall to protect the wheel or to prevent a flat but your father may not need that after hearing your description of his use.

Lmao. You're right so I'm running 26's on stock rims, trying to keep close to 50" so I fit in the truck bed and restricted trails. Yep, want to see that Blue Berry in action.

Well looks like that tire dilemma just got solved. About 5 miles into a ride in the UP of Michigan with the 1000 on some buddies land drove around/over a downed tree at about 5 mph and sent a broom handled size stick right thru the side wall of the rear tire. 670 miles and that's unfix-able sidewall puncture #2. Just ordered a set of 28" Tensor Regulators.

With no off set?! That thing's going to tip over when you bring it down off the jack. I'd get some spacers on order right away. Why no off set?

27s on 14 5+2 rims here, no rub and ride improved with 8 psi. One honest negative is they do stick out about 3 inches and throw mud up the side, so added Mudbuster flares (good fix but $$). Curious if 26s on stock width rims would reduce mud slinging up sides and cab. Dad may not like mud clogs?? If he hunts, check out Vision Buckshot rims. Good luck.
PS. Thanks to all our USA farmers out there.

Ran the same set up for one ride, way too much pucker for me. Check out @Mudder pic of the mud busters. Spread it out, it's a different machine when it's stable. ;)
