So I turn 58 in April, when I was a wee lad my dad surprised me for Christmas 1973 with a Honda XR75 motorcycle, been riding ever since.
Because I lived in the sticks (would get the Sunday papers on Wednesday afternoon) in the 1970's and we still used smoke signals and clay tablets to communicate didn't know about ATC three wheelers until 1977 when my cousin got one.

MY rides over the years....
1973 - XR75 Motorcycle
1977 - ATC 90
1980 – ATC180 Big Wheel
1982 – ATC 185S
1983 – ATC 200X
1986 – ATC 250R
1988 – TRX 250R
1992 – Four Trax 300 4WD
1996 – Four Trax 400 Foreman
1998 - XR650L Motorcycle
2006 – Rincon 650
2011 – Rincon 680
2011 – Rancher 420AT (for wife)
2012 – Polaris RZR 800 (tried first SXS for wife & 50” trails) 4K miles no breakdowns
Just waiting on Honda to offer something other than MUV

2015 – Pioneer 500

2016 - Pioneer 1000-5 Deluxe 12K miles – hard miles - LOTS of lessons learned THANKS @lee

2018 – Pioneer 1000-5 LE (I4-WD test mule) 12k miles no breakdowns

2022 – Yamaha RMAX4 1000 XTR (for Wife’s comfort Seats & ride) 5K miles “so far”

So, as comfortable as the RMAX is sans the engine 5500 RPM noise @ 12 mph because CVT got no 3K RPM grunt. I miss my P1K with that sweet DCT, and especially now there has been 8 years of refinements to the Pioneer 1000 platform. In my celebration of Riding Red for 50 years treating myself to.....

2024 – Pioneer 1000-5 Deluxe in Black Forest Green

Saga to be continued.......... Pictures & build to follow knowing what I know now.

Man what a ride it’s been

Wait, you bought a Rincon twice?
And here I thought you knew what you where doing.

Haha, quite the menagerie of of vehicles there.
FYI, for those wondering about the the lessons learned comment I helped with the solutions to the problems, not the creating the problems.
Mostly.

Congrats on the new ride.

Well in my defense Rincon went from a 650 to a 680. Also, yes you have been an invaluable help in cutting my teeth on the P!K platform the first few years out, not necessarily the machines fault, but lost my first DCT clutch at 136 miles in January 2016, then my second clutch, 2 axles, and subtrans, in October 2016 trying Tackett Creek with RZR bois intent on killing the Honda guy, - "that farm rig won't make it 2 miles in here" - 10 hrs and 42 miles of Tackett Creek hard trails only, 3 of 12 RZRs were towed back in pieces, my crippled P1K with 1 wheel drive went everywhere they did and drove itself back to the trailer. :p Honda durability baby.

OH Honda Warranty - in 50 years only ever needed it on the 1983 200X with a known weak trans shifting fork - bent it flat track racing - fixed no questions asked. Then on the 2016 P1K twice, fixed both times by big H no problem.

My introduction to SxSs was the Talon's dual range, 6 speed, paddle shifting DCT. As a recently retired dirt biker (aged out), that drive train was perfect for my next step in off road exploration. Having experienced the ability to control rpm, there's no way I could live with anything else. Is the Talon perfect? Nope. But it's damn close to 'where I came from'. I'll live with its shortcomings.

I think you're going to love the latest Pioneer. 😍

@JACKAL you selling the Rmax?
Nope, it's what rides comfortable for the wife and all setup for the 2 dogs. If the RMAX had the full Pioneer 1000 engine, DCT, and driveline, it would be the perfect trail machine. My only dislike is the CVT and the engine noise at trail speed. It's paid for, costs nothing to keep, and is clean for wife to ride with whenever she feels like it or she can put the dogs in and go herself.

The new Pioneer will be used weekly to guide with and for me to trail ride when by myself which is often.

I think your going to love it. I drove a bone stock 22 and was shocked at how nice the small but significant upgrades made it.

Nice history @JACKAL , appreciate the documentation.

I wonder... The damage you did to the p1K on that trip with a bunch of RZRs - would you have been able to prevent it with more experience with the dct / clutches / drivetrain?

I got the impression it was early in your ownership of the machine. Either way, it's awesome she made it out of the woods.

I was talking to a Polaris Ranger guy last Summer. He told me if he breaks a rear axle, he's done. I was like, whaaat? That's after I told him the Pioneer had 15K on it and he was like whaaat?

Heh.

That is awesome! My wife and I enjoyed our ride with you at TO23. It is cool to see your Honda history.

I am curious however; what makes you choose the pioneer over the talon?

Heh.
Going up the roughest trail in Tackett Creek -Hells Canyon I broke a left front axle using diff lock trying to get up a major obstacle, should have not had it engaged with the grippy stone. Then broke right rear axle continuing up same hill trying to overcompensate for broken front. All while overheated the DCT glazed the clutch for 1,3,5.

So to finish the ride kept it in low range manual shift in 2nd and 4th gears whenever possible.

That ride was so rough even ripped off the wings of the trail armor skid plate. If that wasn't enough bent the shift fork in sub transmission from power reversing in a bind which also finished off the clutch .

If I had to pay for those repairs would have cost around $2500 eight years ago, but Honda warranty covered it.

Same reason I drive a pickup truck instead of a Corvette. Versatility of Pioneer 1000 makes it a swiss army knife of SXS. Not the best at any one thing, but pretty good at everything.
