So I turn 58 in April, when I was a wee lad my dad surprised me for Christmas 1973 with a Honda XR75 motorcycle, been riding ever since.
Because I lived in the sticks (would get the Sunday papers on Wednesday afternoon) in the 1970's and we still used smoke signals and clay tablets to communicate didn't know about ATC three wheelers until 1977 when my cousin got one.

MY rides over the years....
1973 - XR75 Motorcycle
1977 - ATC 90
1980 – ATC180 Big Wheel
1982 – ATC 185S
1983 – ATC 200X
1986 – ATC 250R
1988 – TRX 250R
1992 – Four Trax 300 4WD
1996 – Four Trax 400 Foreman
1998 - XR650L Motorcycle
2006 – Rincon 650
2011 – Rincon 680
2011 – Rancher 420AT (for wife)
2012 – Polaris RZR 800 (tried first SXS for wife & 50” trails) 4K miles no breakdowns
Just waiting on Honda to offer something other than MUV

2015 – Pioneer 500

2016 - Pioneer 1000-5 Deluxe 12K miles – hard miles - LOTS of lessons learned THANKS @lee

2018 – Pioneer 1000-5 LE (I4-WD test mule) 12k miles no breakdowns

2022 – Yamaha RMAX4 1000 XTR (for Wife’s comfort Seats & ride) 5K miles “so far”

So, as comfortable as the RMAX is sans the engine 5500 RPM noise @ 12 mph because CVT got no 3K RPM grunt. I miss my P1K with that sweet DCT, and especially now there has been 8 years of refinements to the Pioneer 1000 platform. In my celebration of Riding Red for 50 years treating myself to.....

2024 – Pioneer 1000-5 Deluxe in Black Forest Green

Saga to be continued.......... Pictures & build to follow knowing what I know now.

Man what a ride it’s been
Had one of the first xr75's in northern Texas. Was racing a Yamaha mini enduro 60 before that. Long time ago

Solely for trail riding?!?! No other utility, would your still chose Pioneer over Talon?
In TN yes, desert SW no.

Going up the roughest trail in Tackett Creek -Hells Canyon I broke a left front axle using diff lock trying to get up a major obstacle, should have not had it engaged with the grippy stone. Then broke right rear axle continuing up same hill trying to overcompensate for broken front. All while overheated the DCT glazed the clutch for 1,3,5.

So to finish the ride kept it in low range manual shift in 2nd and 4th gears whenever possible.

That ride was so rough even ripped off the wings of the trail armor skid plate. If that wasn't enough bent the shift fork in sub transmission from power reversing in a bind which also finished off the clutch .

If I had to pay for those repairs would have cost around $2500 eight years ago, but Honda warranty covered it.
You trying to compete with @TripleB ???

What about traveling with 3 passengers/kids?
If you're going to have a Talon, it should be the 2 seater. If you want to haul people, Pioneer 1000-5 gets my nod or the RMAX4 1000.

Just don't care for suburban length vehicles in the woods. Personal preference.

Nope, it's what rides comfortable for the wife and all setup for the 2 dogs. If the RMAX had the full Pioneer 1000 engine, DCT, and driveline, it would be the perfect trail machine. My only dislike is the CVT and the engine noise at trail speed. It's paid for, costs nothing to keep, and is clean for wife to ride with whenever she feels like it or she can put the dogs in and go herself.

The new Pioneer will be used weekly to guide with and for me to trail ride when by myself which is often.
Excellent plan!

So the real question is, when are you going to add in a p520 and come hang out with the cool kids?

When I can get one in the dark green as the P1K , however every one that hits dealerships around is already spoken for or way over MSRP, not going to pay that price, someone else can have the $14k P520.

Still it's on my wish list as I want to do another 50" trails ride in Utah or other Western States sometime in by fall of 2026. When I go will be staying a few weeks not days, not necessarily at same location.

Your only 58???!!!
Go work in Prisons for 27 years with more 12-16 hours days than 8 hrs and see how it's ages you. The work isn't physically hard, but tolerating the bulls*** can wear on you. Everything has a price, I paid mine in stress and 90+ consecutive days @ 16 hr days multiple times to retire at 50. I truly feel bad when I see people in their 70s still working just trying to get by.

Probably for tires get BF Goodrich Mud Terrain TA KM3 in 28x9x14 all the way around, they barely weigh 35lbs and have great tread life

Shocks will probably end up buying Elka Stage 3 within a year or so just for better ride quality. Also considering these, just Private label Stage 5 Elkas but $400 less .

He did all that s*** before I had my rig. I read all his stuff about hells canyon when I got my machine in 2018. We went to hells canyon solo(stoopid) after I had about 4 months of experience driving my s***box. Winch, skid plate, mattock, shovel, bottle jack, chainsaw, tools and no extra parts(stoopid) lol. We made it with with no winching and no damage. Pure luck. Chainsaw did save us on some narrow ass ridge trail at 11pm and we where still 2 hours from home. I'm pretty sure the narrow ass ridge trail is closed now but I wouldn't go back anyways lol. I know part of hells canyon is closed.
