Can anyone provide comments on noticeable handling differences between these two different wheel offsets on their Talon R? I know the 6-1 is closest to stock, but the wheel I like only comes in 5-2. Also, any negative effects on turning radius?

It depends on several factors.
  1. Never use the 5+2 measurement, it is not accurate. I have seen anywhere from +10 to +30 mm offset wheels marketed as 5+2. Always use the actual offset to determine what wheels you are referring to.
  2. The scrub radius changes with tire diameter. Stock wheels are +50mm offset and stock tires are 28" diameter. To maintain the same scrub radius with different sized tires you would need...
    1. 30" tires with a +47 mm offset. No such thing but there are +45 and +50 available.
    2. 32" tires with a +45 mm offset.
    3. 35" tires with a +41 mm offset.
That said, a little more scrub radius wont hurt anything. I run +45 mm with my 30" dirt tires and +30 mm with my 30" sand tires and feel no ill effects but +30 is about as low of offset as I would go. A minor difference in scrub radius may slightly affect turning radius but it won't be noticeable.

Thanks for explaining Paul F. I did a lot of reading on scrub angle information and think it would be best to remain close to stock as possible for dirt use and go with the 6-1 (+45mm) wheel in the front. Now just need to decide on 14 or 15" inch diameter.

Caution about 14" wheels on an R. You should check clearance and " adjust" if needed...

We took the plunge and bought a Talon R! Now can you help with this? we want to put a 15” wheel and 32” Roxxzilla all the way around. What wheels, offsets, spacers do we need to keep the talon square? Or can we do that? This wheel stuff is confusing to me.

Try to go at least +30 mm offset for the front. +45 or +50 is better.

If you want to use the same wheels (regardless of offset) all the way around, you need 1.5" spacers on the rear.

If you don't want to run spacers, you need the front wheels to be as close to +40 mm more offset than the rear.

So to run Rockzillas 32” mounted on a 15” wheel (same all the way around) and new square I want to go with
+30 up to +50 (best) front.
Back needs to be +70 up to +90
with no spacers.
Your thoughts on being square and good or bad on spacers?

It is the other way around, the front needs to be more offset than the rear. So...
  • +50 up front an +10 in the rear.
  • +30 up front and -10 in the rear .
  • Neither of those combos exist so...
  • STI makes +50 up front and +0 in the rear. or +30 for the front and +0 for the rear. Either will work and get you close enough.
  • System 3 makes some +45 for the front and +15 for the rear. I have this combo and added longer studs and 10mm spacers in the rear to make it exact (because I am OCD).

What size tires do you run.
If you are asking me, I have run 30X10X15 and 32X10X15 dirt tires and 30X11X14 sand paddles.

32's rob too much power at high altitudes where I ride (5,000 to 12,000 feet).
