This mod cost around $300 all in. For those who have seen my posts, you know I was in serious need of a second battery. The Iso and second honda battery wasn't enough. I ripped it all out, started over and it turned out really nice. I have added a deep cycle marine style 12v 850 CCA battery, with a switch and new iso. Built a tray, used 6awg wire, crimped lugs, heat shrink and dielectric grease on everything.
I had the Amp wired with #10, so I went ahead and ripped that out and replaced it too. I have about 8 hours in all of it, from popping the first plastic pin to.putting it back in. Right out the gate, it's worth it. Before, with all the lights on and radio, it would float around 10.2 amps on the readout, with the new battery, it holds 12.3 and slowly climbs at idle.
This wasn't a bad mod, but measure three times and then again, seriously, it is tight. The box is not intended to be waterproof, just keep the battery protected from rocks mud and anything else that the 28's throw at it. The tray is built out of leftover 2x4 red iron that was laying around. Worked out great. Light but durable. The switch and iso are for marine use. The battery came from orielly, its a small one, anything bigger would not have fit thru the hole, even after relocating the oil fill. It took 25' of 6awg wire, including the Amp rewire. I had about 2' left over. Hope someone finds this helpful. Wished I would have done this mod first. Every accessory on the buggy was moved to the deep cycle , the oem honda battery only has the load of the original oem equipment.
