Interesting. It looks like the TRX intake snorkel also has a small chamber in addition to the large resonator box. So that still makes me wonder if there might be some noise reduction by adding something similar to the P520.

I noticed that the TRX520 has an intake resonator but the P520 does not.

I believe the resonators are usually intended to reduce noise, but in some applications increase power at certain RPM.

I am looking at mods to make my P520 quieter is why I am wondering if anyone has ideas on this.

Yep, my dad bought it new in 1951, found the receipt after he passed away. I rebuilt the engine and all mechanical parts as needed a couple of years ago but resisted the urge to paint it. Original 6 volt system and it still fires right up after a couple of seconds, even after sitting for 2 months.

The engineering behind acoustics, if done properly, is a whole nother level!

Funny that my Polaris ACE machines are very quiet and they don't have any resonator chambers.

While my Talon has 3 tumor looking chambers and is much noisier!

They are probably tuned more for power increase/throttle response than sound reduction

OK so obviously the illustration in the parts list is simplified. Now that I actually have a P520 it certainly does use a series of resonator chambers.

On mine in 2015, (purchased autumn of 2014), I added up the area to the resonators and included in my snorkel design as noted below. Noticeable more power throughout, increased throttle response and quieter overall too.

I even installed an optional drain of clear tubing if water gets in intake tract it’ll drain into tube, which I can unplug at bottom of hose to drain out. Thinking (when I get round to it) I’ll install a pre filter at the intake. Although my snorkel set up really cuts down on keerap and dust getting into filter element.

Oh yaaas, the first paragraph above is complete and utter BS… I made the resonator (larger diameter section), thinking it’d quiet down intake noise, while providing more air volume close to the fuel injector. It’s made no noticeable difference near as I can tell. Overall it has cut down on filter servicing by a huge margin and worth that alone.
