All this talk about batteries and my Honda 1100 motorcycle needs one. Same # as the one in my Pioneer 500. You guys jinxed me!

Thought about starting a thread a while back about how long these batteries have lasted but thought I might jinx myself and never did. I think 6 yrs is pretty good for a motorcycle battery and it still hasn't dragged. How long did that one last?

I needed a new battery charger so I purchased this one from Harbor Freight. The battery on my P1 had been acting weak so I hooked this up in Repair mode and I’ve not had any problems with it since.

I honestly don't care about the price. I'll spend a few extra bucks to get the best. Never had a problem with the SLA I put in as the second battery but if AGM is better I'll go that route. Have been researching it a bit and you can find good or bad on anything. Right now I'm leaning towards Yuasa, Odyssey or Mighty Max. Any first hand knowledge of the latter two?
The Odyssey 925 I had in my Rhino was 7 years old and going strong when I sold it.

I have my 08 Rancher hooked up to an Optimate battery minder.

It was a Honda accessory at the time (on the PE side), don't know if it still is.

My original last battery lasted 7 or 8 years, the 2nd one is still fine at the moment.

Run mine on a tender year round too so they've been taken good care of. Seems like 7 yrs is the going rate and I'm at 6. I just have a lot of electrical on this machine and don't want to start having problems. I'm planning to get dual Yuasa's soon and not revisit this subject for another 7 yrs.

If you have an AGM, it may not like repair mode. My source is from Cteck chargers, do not use recondition mode on AGM batteries. Recondition only if lead plate design.

Went with this option for the Honda motorcycle to ride today, partly because O’Reilys gave $10 off for each of 3 dead Pioneer/atv YUASA batteries cluttering up garage. It is 220 CCA vs 240 with the GYZ 16H. I have a charging pigtail on the way. The new battery has threads tapped in the lugs, no fumbling with the little nut. A good time to clean all connections.

After a couple of decades of Harley and Triumph motorcycle ownership I have come to rely on YUASA first and DEKA second for those applications. Neither brand has ever let me down with regular use of battery tenders. When it comes time for me to replace my stock battery it will be with the YUASA AGM.
Trigger, I expect you will be pleased with your choice.

I have never had a battery fail prematurely that I bought new and added the electrolyte myself.

Any battery setup by a dealer previously, is subject to early failure.

I've learned more about batteries in my last week of research than I ever knew before.
Flooded lead acid batteries are the best for starting an engine but you run the risk of spillage and they may need to be periodically filled.
AGM's use fiberglass mats in them, instead of lead plates, that absorb the acid making them more stable and not spill over. They're also pre-charged, sealed and no maintenance needed. Born on date is the unknown.
Lithium ion's are a lot smaller and far less weight but don't handle extreme temperatures in either direction very well.
There is also the gel type, basically an AGM that the acid has been gelled, making it even more stable. The problem is they don't handle extreme cold as well as a regular AGM.
Something else I learned about the Yuasa's is that they use longer fiberglass mats in theirs which makes them last longer than most. Due to the back order of everything now days, the Yuasa's I ordered are coming together directly from the manufacturer, better chance of having the same born on date and hopefully it was more recent.

Summit keeps giving me updates on the status of these batteries. First it was Mar 19th, then it went to Apr 19th. Now I just got an email that the expected ship date is Jul 6th, wtf?! Anything out there the same size that measure up to the Yuasa's?
