I installed a Badlands 3500 winch a couple months ago and since then my battery drains low enough to either not start or not shift after about 5 days. If I leave the battery on a tender then no problem, or if I disconnect the positive winch cable from the relay then no problem. Has anyone else had this problem or do I have a bad relay?

I think it has a wireless option, but I don't have a wireless controller. Do you think the relay as a transmitter/receiver that is always on? The controller wire to the relasy goes through the accessory harness and I would expect that to enable remote.

Also I don’t think the original badlands 3500 comes with any kind of wireless transmitter. Not sure about the new “xlr” or “zrx” or whatever the heck it’s called. The wireless remotes available for the badlands winches come with their own transmitters (which I have, and still no issues)

I would guess you have a leaky relay. Any brand winch relay will work.

This is a known problem with some relays, it seems. Tends to be those with wireless remotes causing a parasitic draw. Throw a multimeter on it to find out.

Might be simpler to install a breaker in-line so you can switch it off while sitting.

My wireless controlled winch (badlands) would drain the battery. I upgraded winches but kept the wireless relay and battery drain continued so installed a switch.

There's a few posts out there about the wireless remotes draining the battery. @Mudder
Yep, I had that happen on my P1k with the HF wireless remote setup. It would drain it dead in a day or two and it took me a while to figure out what was doing it. However, I've got one on my 2018 Rubicon with the 3500 and have no issue with drain. I chalk it up to good old HF quality control...

Have the same 3500 winch plus aftermarket wireless remote. Zero issues x4 Yrs. (Now I jinked myself). If it were me I would add a switched breaker in the cab, like down by the accessory plug.0376CCD2 37E8 493A AE25 43A778DDB15E
