Hello,
I'm looking at running 15x7 wheels with 5x2 offset, wanting to run 30/9.50r15 bfg ko2, the tires measure 29.4" tall and 9.4 inches wide, 39# lbs, what do y'all think with factory set up?
I am wanting something to ride back roads and use my big horns for off roads. I would appreciate any opinions.
Thanks.

If the tire is truly 29" tall, it will require a lift.

Here is a pic of 29" (I measured) tire on a stock vehicle.

I'm running 235/75r15 Nankang Mudstar Mts They measured a little over 28. They ride really well and allow clearance for flexing still. A few others are running them stock with no problems

I'm considering a similar setup but with either a Maxxis MT762 Bighorn or Maxxis Buckshot Mudder both in LT235 75/R15. I'm fairly sure
I will need a lift or forward a arms to get clearance (Maxxis website says 29" OD but local dealer says 28.5"). I will most likely go with a
HL lift anyway with or without oversized tires/rims.

I am also concerned about the added weight of a 15" rim and 29" tire. I'm sure the weight will be felt but will pull my P1000 down too much?
I like the idea of tire longevity going with a light truck tire.

28" is basically the MAX tire size on an all stock set up. My machine is stock with 28" and they are fine 95% of the time. Every once in a while they rub. Also, If you put a snow plow on they will rub more. My tires are 235-75-15

Didn't you ask this in another thread @BWAF

Cuoutdoors, have you noticed much power loss going with the 235 75R15?

I would expect to loose some.

Haven't lost a lick of power. Runs like a dream!

@Cuoutdoors,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm hesitant on pulling trigger on 15" tires and wheels due to loss of power concerns. Looking at 15" in the HD4 or HD5 beadlocks with the Maxxis Bighorns or Buckshot Mudders.

Also, thanks for the tip on tagging. I'm a little old and my hard drive is getting full. LOL

I wouldn't even let that thought begin to enter your mind until you start passing 30" tires. Maybe a few other guys will calm your fears. @joeymt33 @JTW @nbomar @ohanacreek @Plumber32

Adding 3” to the tire diameter reduced some response. I can still climb the same hills, crawl over the same rocks, get stuck in the same mud. I am going to recommend the clutch update if you put 30’s on, crawling or bogging is going to put extra stresses on a clutch and if you do it enough under the right(wrong??) conditions it will accelerate its delamination to PDQ.

My tires AND dual beadlocks weigh in at 51lbs each, while heavier than stock @joeymt33 Roctanes are about an 1” taller and weight 44lbs unmounted. He doesn’t seem to have any power issues. He has 2500ish miles on a non-updated clutch but I believe he is doing to update now???

I like the 30s seems you can feel the torque better and holds gears a little longer.

Yep, I agree there.

My only caution about 15" wheels is that with a 28" tire you are not going to have a lot of side wall to help absorb rock impacts down the trail. you will need to run a little higher pressure to help avoid pinch flats also. I ran 15" wheels and 28" motoclaws for a about a year and I had several pinch flats. The ride was noticeably rougher to me. A lot will depend on the reset on your set up as well and the terrain and conditions in which you ride - I will say that I liked the stability of the 15"/28 when on pavement or smoother trails.

I think if you pay attention to the weight of what you have vs what you’d be replacing with.. you’ll be very happy you did it!

Decided will most likely go with 15" rims and Maxxis Buckshot Mudders II. The weights of new vs existing (as far as I can glean from internet numbers) will be reasonably close in weight to one another.

I measured the Maxxis BM,s today at a local tire dealer and they come in at 28.5" so I'm thinking with a little air they'll be 29" OAH. After doing some measuring on my rig looks like I'll have to either go with a HL lift or forward a arms. Per my measuring the 29" will rub at full turn lock.

I'd rather go with the HL lift for now (easier install, Lol) then add the a arms later but want to confirm that the HL lift would result in enough clearance for true 29" tires. Would appreciate HL owners with 29"+ tires imput.

@CPope, I like the BFG KO2's too but a little $$ for me and I wanted just a little more aggressive tread design.

@Ragnar406 I agree with air pressure and ride change.
