Anybody else have a Honda pioneer with a blown motor which Honda claims “water intrusion” whether it does or doesn’t have water and Honda will not go good for it? I’ve been reading a lot of posts and seem to run across the same story time and time again. Honda claims water so call your insurance. Me personally I didn’t have any water and have the proof to back it.

Maybe they assume everyone is playing in water since they claim we can. I should have ingested water but I haven't yet.

I'm curious to how everything went down. What did the machine do? What was their exact findings and when you say you have proof how do you mean?
Sorry about the warranty issues, I can understand your frustrations.

I didn't know how to link my other post, so I just pasted it here.

I have had the same problem with Honda on my p500.

It blew up on me on a limerock dirt road nowhere near water. I carried it to the dealer only for the rep to come in and deny my claim due to water ingestion.

I knew the buggy had never been under any water atleast to that extent. So I called bullsh**. I then negotiated my price for tear down. They tried to rip me off on that as well. Loaded all my parts and buggy up and went to a different dealer and explained my situation. They said that sounds fishy because as they were unloading my parts they didn't notice any sign of water anywhere. Buggy was still practically new inside and out. They called a different rep in.

The new rep now examines my parts. Don't know if it was the same guy or not. He then finds no evidence of water. Honda calls and says "I cleaned parts in route from one dealer to the other." That's when I lost my cool and explained to them that the two dealers are an hr. apart. I left from one an hr. before closing of the other. There was no way for me to clean parts in that time. They would be hearing from my lawyer.

They called back a few days later and said they were going to "goodwill" my parts. I would just have to pay the labor.

I ended up paying the labor. I then went back to the original dealer who said the water was there, spoke with the GM and got a awesome price on the 1000 I have now. They gave me a really good trade in on my 500 buggy because it was practically a brand new machine again.

I started to get on a while back and start a thread. There was nothing like this on here at the time. Didn't know if anyone would believe me, because it is a Honda.

We may just need to start a thread... "Problems with mother Honda"

I have a long story about Honda not warranting my 2017 pioneer 1000 (with 800 miles bought in June of 2017 and has been at the dealer since August) after they say “water intrusion.” And I hired a lawyer. I’m not usually that type. Here’s the info and it’s all documented....
Motor blew up on a Friday and it was scheduled the next Monday to go in for clutch slipping. Took it In told the Shop what happened I was on a gravel “road” with my kids way out and wide open, tires locked sent us in the woods. They tore it apart and said yep no problem it’s covered. Two weeks go by and the dealership said the rep wanted to see it cause this is the very first one Honda said has blown up. Dealer said word for word ...rep walked in didn’t even look at anything and said water intrusion tell him to call his insurance. Dealer called me and said this rep doesn’t know a motor from the hole his In a$$. So I called insurance. They took oil samples and pictures and determined it was engine mechanical engine failure. So I called corporate Honda and they said they have proof it was water. I told them that’s fine I need it to give to my insurance. I don’t think I drove through any water fast like they’re saying but who knows. So Honda just write me a letter explaining the water and give me some proof to take to my insurance and we’ll be on our way. They put me On hold come back and say the proof they have is Honda’s property and is confidential! Wtf is that? So you have Area 51 confidential info that says my motor had water in it even though the dealer and insurance say it couldn’t have cause the oil was not milky and there would’ve been no way to flush it out with the motor in a million pieces but I can’t have it? They said yep that’s it. So I called the dealer and said ok now I’m screwed you guys say no water the insurance says no water and Honda motor co. Says water and they have proof but it’s confidential? The dealer said Honda never took any parts OR pictures! That’s snakey actually down right corrupt. So I called Honda motor co. Again and said you didn’t even take pictures or parts. They told me if I can prove there wasn’t water in the motor they would cover it!! What is that I paid 20 grand plus bought the extended warranty and now I have to prove there wasn’t water in my motor?!!! Sorry this is long but that’s part of my story. I had Honda EVERYTHING and now I won’t buy any compactor, mixer, bike atv anything Honda ever again!!!!!

If it wasn't water I'm wondering if the clutch debris from slipping took out the bottom end. There have been a couple of cases I've heard. There was a recall on a very limited number for lower end as well I believe, crank? If I remember right

Just left the dealer to grab the motor or what’s left of it to take to a “specialist” the mechanic handed me this and said make sure you hang on to this. He said it’s the nut that holds the connecting rod to the crank and it’s 3/4 stripped out! He said he tried telling them about it and they wouldn’t even listen.

It seems like 90 percent of the issues that Honda is having or has had, have been quality control issues. Looks like this might be the same.
That's weird. Most of the quality issues seen have been USA side. Motor is assembled in Japan

My point is just admit it. If something like this shows up it probably only costs Honda like 2 grand to fix if that. My extended warranty almost covers that. Instead the mechanics find a problem like this and Honda says nope we’re perfect your gonna have to spend another 10 grand we’ll fix you right up don’t ask any questions.

If you could...it would be to your benefit to get something in writing supporting what he shared with you concerning the conversation and his findings! Good luck!

A few had bad balancers I believe, it was a limited number of units.

The tech who found that nut should have documented it better than just giving it to you. That doesn't prove a thing in a anybody's eyes imo. Not trying to be an was but that won't prove a thing, they'll just say he stripped it taking it off. As a former tech, I fought tooth and nail for my customers unless it was obvious to me it was their fault. Sounds to me like your rep just assumed, I'd want him to show me his reasoning behind his figuring. Usually when water gets in it cause funky stuff to settle in the bottom of the engine. I've seen similar stuff from badly burnt clutches, but the rest of the unit usually tells the story what it actually could be.

Looks like that mechanic should be first on your list of "people to subpoena". Hopefully he has the balls to tell the truth in court.
