DIY spare tire holder for a Dusty Dawgs rear rack

Here’s pictures, pretty self explanatory. The 2 plates are 4x12 1/4” steel plate off amazon.com.

The local NAPA found me the 3’ stick of M12- 1.5mm threaded rod so it uses real lug nuts to hold the wheel on.

I put a piece of 2” x 3/4” hardwood between the plates to keep the threaded rods and mount from potentially sliding down with vibration and permit the door to open to 90 degrees. My dog jumps in from the bench seat so it’s opened for gear.

I built a metal backing plate for the rim so the lug nuts are torqued down against it. The double nuts fine tuned its location on the threaded rid to have the tire in slight contact with the rack.

Nice work man! Just a suggestion Bill, periodically check those lug nuts. I have 3 on the mount I built and was surprised to learn that they were loosening up over time. Not terrible like it was rattling or anything but after a decent amount of riding they weren't as tight as I initially set them.

That’s a good idea. Maybe a drop of red locktite? I got a small, 2 ton bottle jack bungie corded to the rack next to a fire extinguisher.
