Is there enough room you could use a high-pressure gas strut?

Ok here is what I came up with, they are mini rubber bungies That you can see I trimmed up and I have some 1/16 stainless cable that I will make up that will be an 1" or 2 longer to work as a stop to prevent over travel. 20170112 095307 20170112 100011 20170112 100746 20170112 100746

Well here is the installed bungee, It will need the extra cable as a stop. It stretches way to far 20170115 111528

I was hoping that would could do it but you're right with a strap it would release some tension and do the trick probably

Well my final fix is some 1" nylon strap and a put a washer between the the fold on the ends of the strap hoping that all the stress will be on the washer and back of the strap and not tear out the the bolt hole.20170118 115127 20170118 115649 The finished strap is 7" long and lets the the door swing to about 75 degrees of the body with very little stretch.
