Yeah, I put mine in a spot I haven't seen anyone else use, it faces the driver as well. The little momentary push button underneath the voltmeter applies a momentary ground so you can check both voltages without turning on ignition. This spot was relatively easy to wire to from under the hood, as I did it before removing the big warning label panel and installing radio etc. (which of course made access to work on other wiring much easier - - should have done that first.

I have a spare dash in my shop. I will take some pics tonight for you.
Right by the key has some room, but not much hand access.
If you go to the left of the column, you can remove the cupholder for better access.

If you pull the cover below the steering wheel it gives access to either side of the steering wheel.

For newbies, there should oughta be a thread devoted to access and best practices for running wires etc. I've done most all I need to do, but I often struggle mightily, only to later find a much easier way to do what, sadly, I've already done.

There's some room on the left of the steering wheel and its easy to access from behind with the fender removed.

?? For that location rear access, why not remove the cup holder? Would that be easier than removing the fender? I haven't removed a fender yet, so don't know how easy that is.
Fender isn't hard. Just push pins and door removal. Cup holder might work but you have more room from the inside of fender. Bottom line is whatever works best for you.

Removing the fender flare is easy and allows a lot of access
