That’s a huge snake!I have killed several Timber rattlers just shy of 5' and as big around as a baseball/softball here at the house. They get relocated to a "better place" PDQ but the non-poisonous I leave them be.

Where in AZ?I was on a fire detail in AZ 15 years ago and got to see them first hand. I slept on top of my sleeping bag in my tent. Other folks just slept on the truck but I was the rookie so I got to sleep on the ground.
Kind of all over. Started in Mohave Valley. Went to Kingman on a fire a few days. Ended up in Quartzite, then Yuma. Hit a fire on Cabeza Prieta NWR for a few days and got heat exhaustion, very close to heat stroke. Last 2 weeks were at Cibola Az.Where in AZ?
In the warm months, that's a 24/7 rodent catcher, we have several that hunt in my wifes flower beds, I have never told her about them and she hasn't seen them! HA! When you ever see a King snake be careful, there's probably a bad snake around that it's hunting. Snakes don't bother me, when I was two, I caught a Copper Head and brought it into my Grand Ma's house, they freaked out! HA!Another one that lives around here. Today in the drive way.
I think it fell out of the tree as was backing up the Pioneer to take a pick. View attachment 135049

There is a wonderful motorized trail called the "Maverick Trail" that has the trail head in Clay Springs. What type of SxS do you have? I am not sure what accommodations there are for a Class C RV in Clay Springs, but there is certainly riding! There are fun trails to the south that access the Rim Road - a very well-known trail with endless offshoots and lots of wildlife. And the Maverick Trail is cool for sure, taking you all the way to the country club up by Hon Dah Casino. If your SxS is street legal you can have tons of fun. Hit me with any more questions. These are my stomping grounds.Hey SouthwestORV we were thinking about bringing up the Class C RV and were wondering how the trails are in that area. Maybe staying in Clay Springs. Any thoughts?

I sent you a personal message. You can call me.We have a 1000-5 Deluxe that is street legal. We have been staying at the Payson RV campground and riding around that area the last couple of times we up that way. It would be nice to ride along the Rim Road tho. We tried heading west out of Pinetop once on the Rim Road once but ran into private land and turned around, figured we would look in the Clay Springs area. Fool Hollow is hard to get into this time of year. After looking at Google Maps for Taylor,Az. I figured you would be a good person to ask about the area. Thanks
Helped a buddy who has a PHd in genetic microbiology take venom and blood samples from multiple rattlesnakes on the Snake river on the Idaho/Washington border. I don't like snakes, so it was a challenge to go out and look for them. Luckily, the rattlesnakes around here are tiny compared to the ones I ran across in Arizona...

Snakes don't bother me, when I was three brought a two foot Copper Head into my Grand Paw's/Ma's house and said I found a great big worm, they freaked and killed my worm! I love to be out with with people that are freaked out by snakes, I have a buddy that can run the tops of river cane with the help of a long stick! We were floating the Kings river one early Summer in a flat bottom boat, we came to a bend in the river with a huge brush pile on the out side of the bend loaded with Cotton Mouths, I Kept telling him to paddle to the shoal side of the bend, I hear a big splash, he jumped ship, I go sideways into this brush pile and dumped, a bunch of snakes into the boat, shoved my self of the brush pile, boat full of mad snakes, headed down stream and started flipping snakes out of the boat with an oar, he kept hollering at me to let him back in the boat for a half mile, I was laughing my a off, telling him it took me a half mile to get rid of the snakes. Life and Times of Smitty ! This could go on for days!
