Well it took me a couple of months but finally found a workable solution.

It turns out finding a crew cab truck, with a 9' bed, with electric windows and locks, with 4WD is quite a needle in a haystack. There were requirements, like I did not want a Ford 6.0 or 6.4 Diesel, and I would have preferred a Chevy. But willing to make compromises to meet the end goal. Also didn't want to pay $40-50K for a new truck.

After about 2 months of searching I finally a 2000 Ford F350 crew cab with the 7.3L Powerstroke. It is a beast of a truck, and a step down in ride quality from my Chevy 2500HD but will do the job. I need a workhorse and this will haul the load and the family.

Picked up my new Pioneer today, 10' aluminum ramps (rated 1500 lbs. each) worked great and the flatbed is just the right size. Not scary at all loading/unloading. Some pics below in case anyone is interested in doing the same. Haven't towed my camp trailer with the Pioneer loaded, but I don't think there will be any issue. All's well that ends well... looking forward to getting the Pioneer on some dirt in the next couple of days.

Yeah I know. I have had such great luck with my Chevy/Duramax over the last 10 years that is what I really wanted... but the search could have taken much longer... ended up just looking for any of the big 3, except the later Ford diesels. Lots of 8'6" beds out there, very few 9 footers... and when you find one chances are it has the "work truck" trim package with manual windows. Sorry, but a crew cab is too big too have manual windows, been there done that (in the 80's). I will hate to see the Chevy go but I don't want two diesels to maintain, I have had family that has run the 7.3L and I know it is a reliable engine as well and will get us where we need to go.

Now waiting for snow to melt in the mountains for our first camping trip...

@scottf glad you done the homework on that. Ive been studying on the same setup for a while now. Wife doesn't like it but I'm the mechanic. I'm also too dam picky because I want a 7.3 or a cheap 6.0 to make a good one of it. You will enjoy the 7.3 those dinosaurs will run forever.

I hauled mine on a 8 ft long trailer, but I hung over in front and back. Measure from front edge of front bumper, to past center of rear tire, that would be minimum length. Also I would consider how your Going to load a 1500lb plus vehicle. A flat bed is going to be higher than a pickup. Me I'd use a trailer. JMHO
There's your answer! Haul two!

That's what I've been wanting to replace the Durango and pickup with, but a ram or 6.7 Ford.
Right, but I would just like to rent one one way for PROTC, just haven't found it yet. For that I don't care what brand or motor.
