So being a newbie to this industry, I was wondering what some of you seasoned veterans thought about the current state and future of side by sides? As I have been researching forums, aftermarket part offerings, news articles, etc., there seemed to be a lot of growth, part offerings and interest in 2012 and 2013. Then it sort of stabilized in 2014. Not sure if it is this area, but in 2015 it seems to be following the path of atvs and interest seems to be declining. Maybe our requirements as customers is causing the OEMs to offer better technology, which comes at a higher price, which then puts these things out of the price range for most? What is your opinion of this? Will SXSs still be as popular, more popular or less popular in 5yrs, 10yrs?

Well I hate to be the procurer of doom, but I'm about to switch to a jeep. Prices have gotten out of control. I can get a good off roader for the price of sxs with winch, etc.I understand the price hike for great leap forward, but we can't ride sxs on the road , forests in AL. Have to go to a ohv park.

Agree, I'm having problems with the money to deck out new 1000 now. Or for that matter any new 1000cc made.

With the "Premier" 1000cc Sport Models hitting $21K they are bout to price the recreational guy out of the market.

I bought a 2012 RZR800 LE for $11,400 put another 6 K into it to get it where I wanted for protection, durability, safety, & comfort. Motor & clutch was stock so I had invested 18K into it.

A month ago I replaced it with a P500 at $7800 decked it all out similar to what I did to the RZR but cost me $4K so al in I'm at 12K on the Honda which has a 6 speaker Sound bar and a 30" LED light bar not to mention $600 of it in bucket seats and I have a tricked out ride for what I paid for the RZR that didn't have any of those three items bought.

Other forums talk about a RZR tax, and I will have to agree the P500 will do EVERYTHING that I did and wanted to do in the RZR for $6K less invested.

As other MFG's come to market with competing product models like Honda, Yamaha, etc. the competition should drive base prices lower. Honda is definitely aggressive om pricing on what they offer vs. the competition. Honda is just ramping up in my humble opinion and I think the future is bright for the consumers it will just take a few years to settle in.

Was really wanting the new P5 for grand kids, then got on Craigslist. Several road worthy rubicons for under price. I do however enjoy the sidexside trail riding.

Agreed, but a new 4dr Jeep is 45k not decked out, wouldn't want to use it around the land, won't fit down trails, too nice/too expensive to scratch the paint off road. Insurance is more than $150 a year.

It is a PITA finding good places to ride around AL (legally) though. We're way behind other parts of the country in ORV access.

I feel ya try the communist State of IL they have ZERO miles of trails but made a law 20 years ago charging $15 a year for an OHV/ATV sticker to support OHV trails in IL. It's been 20 years not 1 mile of trail offered legally by the state, but get caught on an ATV hunting without the sticker DNR has a $500 surprise for your @zz, and if they wanted to could confiscate the machine and keep it.

I ve asked several Park Rangers up at Little River about that. They always quote a discretionary law from the 70's? Whatever I get for more room will have to be used. Cant go new. Orthodontist bills about to hit. Can ride a titled vehicle in the national forest though.

Outlaws baby if there is a trail im on it ;)
Go0od deal till busted. Years ago I had to bond out, pay fines, and buy my rifle and ride back, Bad day. Trail we were on cut into TN and back into AL. Who would have thought TN Game and Fish would have been their. They new folks from AL were using the trail to get to a good spot to hunt. So they wait and bam! Trail crossed 300 yards inside TN before turning back . Learned my lesson.
