I went in for a 700.
Drove one.
It was just what I needed.
Then the salesman said that I should drive a 1000...……..

I love my P1000-3!!!!!

He has the 700 deluxe O.T.D. for 9700 I don't pay sales tax cause I'm out of state and no dealer fees. He said he would give me a good deal on a 1000.but I just bought the p5 5 months ago.so I will be price conscious but he has some demos also . Can't wait I'm off on fridays.

At least consider the 1000, the reasons your looking away from the 500 to the 700, are the reasons I looked away from the 700 to the 1000.

The 500 is not a bad machine but it’s intended use is not how I ride. The 700 is dang near bulletproof I would consider it to be the 300 Fourtrax of this generation. The 1000 is quieter and better riding than either of the others even without a shock upgrade. I don’t worry at all about the 1000 since I got the clutch update on my 16’ (the 18’s have it from factory and the 16-17’s can get it for free and should before you take delivery.

For its specs off the showroom floor the 500 is a really capable little Mt goat but it has shortcomings as it’s a 50” utility machine vs a 60” utility/ kinda sorta crossover the 1000 does well at being.

Neither are sport machines but the 1000 handles rougher terrain better than 500 or 700 with the extra suspension travel, and not that I need 66mph but having the power to get there helps in the rougher more technical terrain. My lifetime average speed on trails is probably around 10-12mph for the most part and 3-5mph around the homestead. I definitely have a few faster trail rides on it and it does well., BUT ITS NOT A SPORT

I'm in the same boat, I just posted my P5 on Craigslist for sale. Have been looking at 700s online from a couple of local dealers, but should probably check out what kind of deals I can get on a 1000 as well.

I will definitely give the 1000 a serious look and it's not off the table . You know how the 500 was yesterday I did great but was way out of it's league. I took a real beating. I wanted to stay but I was over it. If I work a good deal on the 1000 I will definitely do it.

I save a lot more money driving 2 hours to Chattanooga. At my local dealer they won't match the price and have to pay all their fees and 7 percent sales tax.

We have this issue with our local dealer. It's a large dealership but I honestly don't see how they stay in business.
The other problem I have with them is, they don't keep ANYTHING in the parts department. I stopped there to get a sparkplug for my motorcycle. When he told me he would have it "tomorrow", I said "don't bother", I can order it myself.

Bite the bullet and go with a 1ooo. I wish the 1ooo's were available when I bought my 700-4 but didn't have 3 months to wait. 7oo is a great machine, very dependable and will do just about anything you put it against. The BIGGEST thing wrong with the 7oo is being very underpowered. You will definitely need a set of tires, shocks or lift for the 7oo. Those are a must have for it.

I appreciate the feedback it will be a great help and is not taken lightly. I will always visit the 500 section plus the deal won't be done till Friday. Talking on phone with them only goes so far. Won't know how it's going to go till I get there.

I agree with @SundayRdr. If you're considering a 700 for a trail machine figure on shocks and tires for sure. So depending on what route you take, another 1-2000 dollars. Also for that purpose you pretty much need the paddle shifters too and power steering, so I hope that 700 you're looking at is a deluxe.
