I was looking for some pics to share with a friend tonight, and stumbled across this of my son tanner in Idaho. I showed it to him, and he asked when are we going to go back. That was a fun weekend View attachment 114756

That was an 86 Chrysler Laser XT. Pretty peppy for the day.
In high school I had an 84’ Plymouth torismo with factory ground effects and rear luvers was gray with red interior and a moon roof. Sorry but it was a POS. It was quick and looked good but the overall quality was garbage. It was the first and last Chrysler product I’ve owned for myself besides my wife’s 13’ JK.

Yeah 80s and quality don't tend to go hand in hand.

Dad had 1970 Duster, 198 ci, 3 speed. At least the dealer screwed up and put a 340 decal on it. At 16, just happy to drive anything. First car I bought was a $500 surplus USPS, right hand drive International Scout, so funny when cops pulled me over and approached the passenger and asked for license and registration.

In my experience the 2.2 Chrysler was a very durable engine. They were not particularly oil tight though. It makes sense since the same engineer that designed the slant 6 worked on it. That said, the carburetors installed on the earlier ones are garbage like most from that era.

The exception may be the turbo 3 in the R/T models. 224 horsepower from a 2.2 in 1991 was incredible stuff. It was the 2.2's last hoorah, and it went out with a bang... sometimes literally.
