Don't know how much of it made national news, but....

Sunday night around 7ish, a monsoon microburst moved slightly to the north of my house. The wind was such that my back yard chain link fence covered with one of those privacy shades bent to something like 50 degrees. Lots of lightning as well.
The wind snapped around 30 poles (reports vary) northwest of me and killed the power. It was this morning at 6am before it was finally restored and around 7 tonight before it stopped surging. 2.5 days with highs in the 110 range...serious business.
People got hotel rooms and/or headed out of town. Those with RV's did driveway camping. A state of emergency was declared in the town of Eloy just down the road.

Something like this happened a few years ago, and when we moved here, we had the foresight to buy a cheap HF 5500 generator, and I'm so glad we did. It ran flawlessly for 36 hours, and while I missed some work getting things safe for the wife and dogs, one we got the setup, we were relatively comfortable despite it.

Fixed many a storm damaged tower. Here's one an EF3 hit a couple years ago and flipped upside down. We flip it back over with crane and bulldozer. Get the wire out and build a new one. Took 2 1/2 days on this one.
