Called my Honda dealer yesterday looking to price a Talon X. They didn't have one. The only one they had was on the floor 3 days before it sold. My land search in Idaho hasn't panned out. If it just doesn't happen, I may invest in a 1000-5 or a Talon X and just keep traveling every year. I'd just rather the Western United States be my backyard and preferably Idaho. That 3-7 day drive across country ain't my favorite drive. I'd like to do some longer overnight multi day western trail explorations and so a larger machine is definitely in the works.
1000-5 le. Perfect for your adventures.

A 500 out west is more useful than a Talon/1000 back east unless it's a farm tool (which I think you already have with a Kubota?)...but you wouldn't be looking at a Talon for that. Wait for the land.

If you must buy a machine...A base model p1k (with ps and paddles) seems like it makes more sense for the budget. Why pay for the LE? The shocks are nice, but the worst riding p1k will be like a nuclear powered laz-e-boy compared to a 500.

Or...don't forget there is a middle pioneer. A 2 seat 700 gives you the room (if you fit in the cab), most of the improved ride, and no more power, but cost just a tad more than a 500. Buy the land and a 700.

Just some thoughts...

The 700 rides like a Cadillac compared to the 500. My 500 rode rough, the 26” tires tamed it a bit. The 700 has 36hp vs 28.5 for the 500. You do have several good points, well spoken.:)

Oh...I Know. Lawn tractors ride better than 500's.
The powe-to-weight of the 700-4 is essentially the same as a 500, so a 2 would be a little better. There was a video on the prokevin site.

I still like the 500’s, I wish they had a bed though.
