I replaced my rear boot (it tore) and I saw both the aftermarket and honda boots first hand. Visually they seem the same, however if you hold them the honda boot is thicker and less malleable. The Honda boot was definitely more money but seemed justified in materials...

I went with the genuine honda boot and am not disappointed with that decision.

I haven't on the 1000 bit I replaced the cv's on my 700 after a wreck and I ditto marines experience exactly. The aftermarket shaft looked good but the boot was very hard and not near as many ridges I think it would crack out quickly

Me too.
Rookie question - what do I need to watch for when I replace the boot? Just corrosion from moisture that might have worked its way in?
The stick is about 1/2 inch into the boot but not sure how long it was there. I was on a week long trip and that was covered in mud till I got home. But no more than a week.

Water shouldn't hurt it unless it's rusted and been that way for a while. Grit will hurt it though. Just wash it good when you get it apart.

For a boot!?!? The whole shaft in my 700 was 96! There's got to be cheaper. You should get a good discount from your dealer I would think

Look up aftermarket units and look at the dimensions. This or something close may work great.

Thanks CP
All Balls claims this one fits

I can get it delivered here for about $20. Comes with 2 clamps so I'd have to get 2 more to re-install the inner boot.

Dealer says you cant buy the outer rear boot set without the inner boot - thats part of the reason for the price. You get both.

I can say for certain that All Balls is good equipment (probably better then stock) as we run them in many vehicles. That's cool you looked that up and gave part number because that is a great part to order beforehand I'll probably do that and others will have the number as well so thank you!

I replaced the inner and outer with All Balls. I didn't need to replace the inner but felt the Balls would be a tighter seal and they seem less likely to crack. Softer rubber - so maybe easier to puncture but I'm not worried.

Inner - p.n.19-5033 Exact same shape as Honda boot
Outer - p.n.19-5026 Fewer ridges and it looks a bit gimped when installed but a smaller target for pointy things.

Honda on the left , all balls on right.

Just discovered a ripped outer rear boot. When installing a new Honda boot, how does the job go? Do you just remove a snap ring and slide the cv joint off, and then put the new boot on? I've never done a boot, I usually just run the axle till she makes noise or breaks! LOL

I recently replaced an axle on my car that someone had attempted to fix with shoe goo. I would never even think about trying to fix a boot with shoe goo.
