P1000 How to get more HP out of my Pioneer 1K?

Hey, just wondering what options there are to squeeze some more power out of my Pioneer 1000 without sacrificing reliability. I’ve thought about doing an exhaust, but from what I’ve read online, all that’ll do is increase the volume and maybe get you 1 more hp.
Is a putting a tune on it the only option? I know the Talon is making over 100hp with the same engine. Dose anyone know if there’s different parts on the Talon engine to make the extra power. Or is it just how it’s tuned?

Talon has different parts in the case.

Why do you want it faster? If it’s to be faster than your buddy who has one of the rubber band units don’t bother. Honda Pioneer1000 will outlast most other brands by a large margin. The more you do to make it faster the quicker it will break. And then you’ll become just as good a mechanic as they are.
Power aside, the experience you feel having an auto shifted manual DCT tranny is like no other.
Belt drive units have to hang their hat on something so they throw high hp numbers at em to get attention. What they don’t tell you about is the high maintenance.

Or just throw a turbo on it…….

Not trying to be a smart azz but if you don't need the utility of the Pioneer, use that money to upgrade to a Talon. The Pioneer's suspension is about maxed out with the stock HP. There are several differences between the Pioneer and the Talon's engine, the cam for instance.

I’m not trying to compete with a buddy or anyone else. I guess what I’m really after is a bit more torque and acceleration. Just for my own enjoyment and how I like to drive. I don’t need anymore top speed.
I do most my riding in the mountains, so I do a lot of massively steep and long hills, and if it’s not hills I’m tackling it’s heavy greasy mud. I also carry quite a bit of gear in the back and sometimes I’ll have a few passengers with me. I certainly manage get wherever I want to go. But I’d also enjoy a bit more get up and go.
Turbo is out of the question, I don’t need that kind of headache.

I’ve thought about doing that, but I’m not sure I want to lose the ability to carry more than one passenger and all the gear I bring with me. I also have no interest in a 4 door talon. Too much money, and a lot of trails I run are pretty tight. So having a tight turning radius is a must.

Options
Drop a talon engine/ecu/etc in

If u have larger tires - go back to stock - nothing robs HP more than larger tires and wheels

Get your friends zepbound shots

Not sure what u carry -but I am amazed at how many packouts and stuff people carry - like 5x the amount a KOH race car team carries - hundreds of pounds and enough stuff to rebuild the entire car including the engine


There is not much u can do to squeeze more bolt on power other than a tune

Anything above that you must go inside the belly of the engine

Dunno, maybe I'm just easy to please. My drivetrain is stock, and it's never had me wanting more power or performance.

It’s pretty easy to fill the back with gear. I always have a rifle and targets, all my recovery gear (saved my ass more than once, and other people I run into who are stuck and unprepared), I’ll bring a few fold out stools, stuff to build a fire or clear blocked trails, first aid kit, and a cooler. It’s not hard to add weight. All that stuff is what I’d consider essential to go out into the deep woods.
When I go out I don’t wheel with a group. Just me and whoever I bring along for the ride. So I like to be prepared.
It was mostly a question of curiosity. Like I said, I manage to get wherever I want to go as it is. Was just wondering if there’s some simple options to get a bit more out of it.
So has anyone here done a tune on their pioneer? Was it noticeable? Worth it?

If you're looking for more low end torque and not worried about top speed, I'd recommend looking into some gear reduction. Either IGR or portals. You can toss some 30% portals on there with a little bigger tires, and have tons of low end grunt.

Portals are interesting, but not really an option. I park my SXS in my garage and with 28’s on it I have about 2” of clearance above my garage door. I think with portals it won’t fit anymore.
So has anyone here put a tune on their pioneer?

Yes. If you use the search bar in the upper corner of the site you can find threads about tunes and the users that have put them on their machines as well as what they thought about the results.

I don't know if anybody has measured the HP before and after a cat delete, but having it done to mine I find it breaths easier, reduces the heat buildup, sounds a little throatier and I "think" it has more grunt off the line. Its a cheap and easy mod. Make sure you read all the threads and watch a few of the youtube videos before you dive in

I've never done a tune, but I do recall several guys around here quite happy with their results.

There's one supplier that's a giant a-hole, don't buy from him.
