Here’s what I know…I spent the evening doing a deep dive into the topic. From what I was able to find out the pioneer is pretty much maxed out for power from the factory. I was able to find some reviews and comparisons of different tunes from Mud Puppy. My understanding is that the tune has more to do with clutch settings and optimizing of some other settings. They don’t make more power. The biggest limiting factor is the size of the intake.
Several people have driven my 2018 P1k5 over the years….one thing I have never ever heard is that there’s a lack of power, if anything the comments are quite the opposite. They are coming from rubber band machines whom supposedly have equal or more powerful engines. My Pioneer will still blow the doors off my pops new 2025 Kawasaki Mule 1000.
Every spring I load up my P1k5 with 80 gallon spray rig and spray approximately 250 acres of rough rock and boulder covered pasture ground. About 1/2 of it is deep ravines and draws that are tough enough empty to traverse let alone loaded. The only real modification to the P1k5 is a full skid plate and arm guards and a throttle max. Stock tires no lift etc. The P1k is an amazing animal that really goes anywhere I point the nose.
I also have a 20 Talon x4 live valve. It’s an absolute bus compared to the pioneer for turning. Straight line it hauls the mail. Does it run away from the P1k…not really…smooth roads no..rough terrain absolutely. Tight areas and low speed..they are the same with difference being seating comfort.
I guess what I’m saying is…the P1k5 is a durable bad ass machine in its own right and that’s probably why there’s not many people really doing anything to them…as it’s not really needed IMO if you’re staying in stock form.
