Does anyone have any thoughts on the MX5400 vs the M5660?

Nice tractor, but a bit light. Nice tractor to pull a 12' batwing or 12' to 15' Turf Batwing on flat or gently rolling ground. If you're feeding round bales or doing heavier loader work, go M5660 or M6060/M7060 if you're wanting a cab tractor. Driveline and axles on the latter mentioned are much heavier and loaders have more generous capacities and the tractors will be much more stable when doing so.

I've had a 2019 Kubota MX5800 since Jan 2020, I have a 96" 3 Axis hydraulic blade, a 96" Grading Scraper, n a 96" Box Blade, and 84" Heavy Rotary Cutter and the BH92 backhoe unit on it. Bought new have about 1300 hours on it now.

The HD Rotary Cutter is a bit much weight wise on hillsides but it's width has also kept the tractor from tipping a few times, still if I was going to do it over would go with a lighter weight mower unit. All my other attachments have work perfectly with it at 62HP / 58 PTO HP.

I have a MX6000, think the only difference is the tune on the engine. Think the mechanical engine spec's are the same.
Absolutely love my MX6000.

Thank you to everyone for giving their input. My wife and I looked at the MX5400 and we were able to compare it to a M6060 (they did not have the M5660 on the lot). They both seem like nice tractors. I really want the M but we are worried about the size of it compared to the needs of our property. I think it might be too big. Next week we should have a trade in evaluation on our L3301 and we will see what happens.

If we choose the M and our trade in value is good, we will get the M6060

I know nothing about the big M series Kubota but can endorse the Kubota brand.

I owned and used a compact B series Kubota for ten years on a five-acre parcel in Crosby County, TX (near Lubbock) for ten years and have owned and used a sub-compact BX Kubota for six years now at my home in WV.

Kubota tractors and equipment are top quality equipment. I have never had a single problem with the two I have owned. They are very durable and reliable.

I am not picky about tractors. My wife and her family are picky :p My wife is third generation Kubota owner. I have heard good things about Kubota.

The M series is a larger frame tractor, are you planning to get a loader with it?
If you plan to get a loader make sure you get the quick connect type and a 3rd function hydraulics on the loader.

Yes, loader capacity is why we started looking at a new tractor. Our L3301 barely lifted 5x6 round bales off the tailer. I was kind of surprised it struggled so badly. I thought it could lift them but the loader whines after about 3ft off the ground and acts like it doesn't want to go any higher.

Yes , get the biggest tractor you can afford. I just spent 2 days on a L3800 HST. For the size of it , it is amazingly capable. Took it places i probably shouldn't have. But the whole time I thinking if I had a big arse tractor I could do a lot of other stuff a lot faster. Also I was working out in the desert. No trees out there to bust up a cab. That's all I got.

This is one reason I got the 2501 over the 2901 or the 3301. I didn't need the extra HP for my usage and the lift capacities are nearly the same.

Tractors and farming is new to me. My wife and I are starting to get into it more (outside of gardening). We have always had chickens. We have always had some sort of garden. We slowly keep making it bigger. We participate in market gardening and last year we did produce, eggs, and our added item was flowers. This year we want to add meat birds and goat meat to our arsenal. We have about three acres we want to clear for the goats and I need something that can move round bales of hay because in our area they are extremely cheap versus small square bales. The L3301 already struggles with land clearing. I like to lift trees out of the ground. Then to find out our L3301 doesn't like lifting round bales just added to the desire for more power. We really like the L for it's size. It fits everywhere we need it to on our property. The majority of our property is trees. There are some places that are very tight. That is why I am so picky about the frame size. I really like the power of the M. I just don't know if I want to knock everything over everytime I use it. I worry the M will be a bull in a China shop.

Agreed. I chose the L2501 over the L3901 for that and no emissions. I appreciate the simplicity and reliability of the L2501. And, when it comes to power, well the S2T Turbo Kit solved that issue;

My L2501 is pumping out 44.1 HP and 35 PTO HP with the Turbo. It’s an awesome machine!

Loader capacity of the M looks to.be nearly double the MX.

Yeah, L is 1131, MX is 2275, and M is 2928.

Google said a 4x5 round bale should be around 800lbs so I thought my L would be ok. But it does not like them.
