Hello, my name is Bartholomew, I am a slug. I didn’t get a whole lot of sleep last night and I had a whole Lotta fun today experiencing sights I have never dreamt of ever seeing. I feel like turd mash. But I must say, that, today is the personal best as far as us getting over my fear of heights and getting up into super high altitude country where only 6 feet away from you lies 1000+ foot cliff and certain death if one were to take the plunge. Forking amazing country and very little compares, at least from what I’ve seen to the raw beauty that this place portrays around every corner.
Shear Magnificence!!!
Originally, we had planned to take the southern part of the loop over to cinnamon Pass to Silverton Colorado. Instead we decided to go ahead and just do the whole Alpine Loop. There were a couple of offshoot sections that we did as well. There were a number of large mines dating back to the 1800s in old town‘s and homesteads along the route. Much of the buildings and machinery that we saw look like they may have only been sitting there for maybe 15 years where in reality it was more like a couple of hundred. It’s one thing that’s really cool about the worst because it’s so dry here things don’t rust or rot away as quickly as they do in the east. So everywhere you drive here is like historical preservation. We did also drive through the small ghost town of animus forks. I found an old prospectors shovel in the creek below to a national forest worker. The shovel was not rusted away because the heavy mineralization in the Animas River. I have such a good eye for finding things out of place. Which was amazing considering that that place has been probably picked over over the past couple hundred years. One of the old cabinets even had some of the old wallpaper and something else I noticed was the out houses were actually attached to the homes they are probably due to the fact that they probably back then got snow storms and Jeff’s as deep as 14 feet. We did get to drive through a number of avalanche areas as well. It’s amazing the kind of damage that raw power to do.
I think I must’ve taken over 200 photographs today so forgive me if some of them are double or near doubles. It’s hard to take choose from my phone screen. Be patient it takes quite some time to load all of these. Thank you and enjoy the show.
