Since the Talon doesn’t have an “acc” on the key switch, can I leave the key on without the engine running to listen to the stereo?

I'm under the impression that the hour meter will still count when it's in the ON position. I haven't tested it for a while but on my pioneer 1k I'm almost positive that it turns the hour meter with the key on and the engine off.

@KenThompson Using the key will also run up the hour meter.

Some what related. Is there any damage to ECM, etc with the key on for a radio, for periods less than a concern for killing the battery? (P500). I am not concerned about an hour meter running up.

Because I know I'll eventually (and probably repeatedly  ) leave the key on and hearing that the hour meter will probably run during those times, I added a separate hour meter that wraps around the plug wire. It'll be interesting to see how far apart they'll get over time. fwiw: a regular motorcycle hour meter's lead is 'just' long enough, barely, for dash mounting.

Isaiah. I'm just curious why you wouldn't just swap your accessories off your ACC line? Your entire maintenance schedule and resale is dependent on the "actual" hour meter. Just wondering..

That’s right, we just change the oil when we get damn good and ready. 🤣🤣🤣

I know how many miles is on my machine but couldn’t tell you what the hours are....

I differ from that opinion. Hours are alot more important then miles. Especially if you drive slow and hard or if you have excessive idle time (like me). Also why the maintenance reminder is on hours AND miles.

Well... I disagree haha...
Hours are subject to false increases. Miles are not.

This would make a good poll. I'll build on and post link.

If hours don’t factor in RPMs, its all a swag concerning engine wear. Glad a Honda engine is tough enough to handle any fudge factor. LOL

The only reason for false increase would be leaving the key on. if I changed my oil on miles I would be well, over the recommended service. I have 908hrs and 7000.

I've always wanted an hour meter, it's simply another data point, most useful for engine hours. Honda's choice to have it run whenever the key is on makes absolutely no mechanical sense to me, it invalidates the data.
