Picked up my 2016 1000-3 EPS yesterday and rode about 8 miles last night, started slowly this morning and then died checked battery and it was 11.3 volts, i charged it up to 12.2 volts and stated it, battery reading 11.7 with engine running? I checked tightness of battery cables and wires i could trace down and can see no obvious problem, dealer is closed today and i was really looking to ride today any suggestions?

12.2 vdc is still really low. Charge it back up. Check all positive and negative wires and make sure there secure. You want it to be around 12.8vdc or higher. Your P1's charging system isn't designed to charge a dead battery.

I have battery on charge now I will see what it does when it gets full charge, what should volt reading be with full charged battery and engine running if charging unit is working?

It should read 14 volts while running.

I can't see mine right now but it seems like there is a main fuse you could check the connection there.

Don't scare me with charging problems!!! I'm old enough to remember the stator problems Honda had in late 70s to late 80s. And reg/rec problems they had too. Surely Honda has all that straightened out by now lol.

My favorite (sarcasm) was 84 Goldwing. Stator could be replaced in less than 30 mins but had to remove engine. Total ended up being around 6 hours labor (I think book called for 7). What a pain.

So i charged battery to 13.2 v and started up first reading after starting 12.78, drove around in field behind house for about a mile stopped, reading was 12.13, looks like no charging, cant find anything loose so i guess its a trip to dealer in the am. Really sucks since i just got rid of a arctic cat hdx because of continuous problems, hope this isn't a sign.

We've got hundreds of members on the forum and this is the first I've heard of this problem. I wouldn't say this is a sign.

I hope they get it fixed quickly and get you back on the trail!

I will let you know what the dealer says, I hope it's just something minor like a bad ground connection.

If you have a volt/ohm meter, put the leads on your battery and observe the reading (voltage), then start the P1 ,and while it's running check what the output is. Should be around 14vdc at idle.

SO i took it to the dealer this morning and they got right on it, it was a connector in the wiring that had a wire not pushed all the way in so when it was plugged in it was not making contact, was back home in time to ride a few miles and everything seems fine now. Thanks for the help
