New Laws for Hatfield McCoy Trails in WV

New laws went into effect on June 8th 2018 that now prohibits:

No child age 6 or younger.
No Car Seats
No Booster Seats.

So much for family friendly trail riding with your kids.

That sucks. That was one of our future family destinations with the boys and Pioneer. At this point we won't do it for at least 4 years

The whole reason I got a four seater was for the kids. Once they get older it's harder to get them to want to hang out with you. I'm very disappointed with this State.I believe it was a liberal decision on their part. But what scares me most is will other states follow their lead.

It seems this is taking a step backwards considering that drawing tourists in to ride the HM trails is how a lot of the little coal mining towns make money nowadays..

Most of the trails are on coal company land.
They are faced with diminishing market for coal and really dont want a law suit just now.
So yes, they are really risk adverse.

I live in Ohio but have ridden in Michigan only once.
They require state training for minors riding ATVs.
So I would head south to ride, now its a habit.
Ohio is almost as bad, when my daughter turned 16 she could not ride untill she had a drivers licence, but at 15 I could ride with her and it was legal.

That’s f***ing dumb... part of the reason I wanted to go to Hatfield and McCoy was due to the good conditions of the trail system for the girls.

Apparently the outlaw trails are not so outlaw. Because people are saying the Hatfields trail peckers are starting to patrol the outlaws now too.The new rule is state wide

In Michigan a minor can operate an atv/utv at 12yo with a DNR safety class, there are no minimum age requirements for a minor as a passenger.
