Hello all. Just picked up a 17 p500 and found out I am going to need new tires. A couple leak pretty bad and are decently worn so I would like new ones. I live in Michigan and will mainly use this machine around our family farm and possibly a little trail riding in northern Michigan where we hunt. So having no prior experience with side by sides I am not sure where to start. I have been reading tons of threads but without the knowledge of owning a machine before I am not sure what’s best for me. I think I would like bigger tires and possibly a slight wider stance. So any recommendations of what to buy and also where is a good place to buy them from would be awesome. Thanks

5+2 offset wheels to widen it and a Bighorn type tread pattern. They ride good and work quite well in everything. If they are radials it will ride better . The 500 guys will chime in soon its Saturday so may be a little slow.

X2, my Bighorn type thread tires are Journey 350s.

Congratulations on the p5.
You will likely get as many recommendations as there are tires, which is fine, so I’ll chime in here with mine.
5+2 wheels are a good place to start. Rule of thumb: When you go up, go out. You may still need spacers but these will give you a head start.
I can’t say anything bad about Bighorns (since I’ve never had them) and many people run them and swear by them. I went with 12x9-26” Blackwater Evolution’s on 5+2 rims on all four corners and have been quite happy.
Soon you’ll have many more recommendations to ponder.

Born and raised in west Michigan, Grand Rapids area. Spend a decent amount of time in the evart area on friends hunting property. Here it is before the mods start

Welcome to the forum Rooftop. Lots of choices and a few directions you can go. 27's are about as big as you can go without modding but 26's are a good fit for the P5. Like others said, if going to aftermarket wheels 5+2 offsets is good advice. If sticking with the stockers you'll want to add spacers. Do you plan on sticking with the wides in the back or same on all 4? Wides will give a little more flotation in snow and sand but you lose the ability to rotate. Been running BH 2.0's for yrs now, the aftermarket ones are 6 ply radials and super light, wear like iron.

Do people recommend a new wheel or just add spacers to stock wheels if you don’t mind how they look.

I did it for a while. You can get the caps for the hubs so it looks better. Works fine with spacers. Aftermarkets just give you more bling and have the offsets you want.

Spacers will work and save you some money. I started with 1” spacers I the back with stock wheels. The. I moved the 1” to the front and added 2” spacers to the back with stock wheels. I’m currently running the 1” front and 2” rear spacers with 5+2 wheels. It’s probably overkill but it works. The thing I like about the spacers vs new wheels is the ability to experiment with out spending a bunch on wheels. I also started with the stock tires, moved to 25” tires and currently running 27” tires. 26” tires are a good size for most people. You will have plenty of power, the machine will ride and perform better and you won’t need to modify anything other than making it a little wider to compensate for the added height.

A great all around tire for the P500 is the 26x9x12 Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tire for OEM rims. or you can get 5+2 or 4+3 offset wheels to widen the stance if you so desire.

Are the brand name big horns better or are the knock offs pretty good to?
I have had great luck with the copycat Tusk Trilobytes from RMATV.COM a P1K getting over 3500 miles per set. Overall traction is great and no vibration at top speeds.

Just put on Bighorn 2.0. First time putting new tires on my 2018 P-500. 26/9R12 up front 26/11/R12 in the rear with 1" RB3 spacers all the way around. I can't recommend that set up enough. It is a great combo.

Welcome Rooftop from another Michigan guy! I've been riding 3-wheelers and quads since I was 12 yrs old - 38 years later I buy my first side-by-side. The guys on here are great- great depth of knowledge and experiences, as well as opinions! So with my 2 years of P500 experience here is what I say:

* A 26" tall tire is an excellent choice for this machine.
* What ever brand you buy - make sure it is a radial! Vastly improves the ride quality!
* Start with just the tires on your stock wheels (what I have) then if you think the machine feels too tippy- get some wheel spacers.
* As other point out- if you want to change the look and want the wider stance, buy a set of aftermarket off-set wheels.
* My experience is any aftermarket tire tread design is better than the stock tires than come on most ATV's & side-by-sides. So I would just say look at a bunch of different ones and pick what looks will suit your needs. As for a recommendation: I agree with the Maxis Big Horns- know a lot of guys that have run these on their 4x4 quads and the traction improvements are incredible. Or, I went with a bunch of suggestions from this site and bought the Kenda Bear Claw XTR's. They have a more aggressive tread than the Big Horns do, but I can accept the turf damage in my yard from them- not horrible. Oh- Big Horn 2.0 for the radials. I think the original Big Horns are bias-ply.
