Just in case anyone is interested....the front differential from a 700 shares many common parts with the differential from the 500. Looks like an additional case or two and some locking shafts, bearings, and small parts to turn the 500 diff into a locker. Or a front final drive assembly from a 700. Should be less than $1000 if you truly have to HAVE a locking front differential.
I am not saying everything with fit perfectly either but it looks like it will (same part numbers in common). The biggest hurdle would be how to engage the locking differential or just leave it locked.
Different axle lengths it would make the front shafts even shorter which would kill the very limited travel we already have

In the parts diagram, I couldn't find that spring washer on the p500. I don't think the case size would be affected or the shafts length. The p500 has an end piece on the right side that is either the same or very close in size. Of course someone that has access to a 500 and a 700 would have to measure the right side of the differential. I don't think Honda would make it that difficult because interchangeable parts decreases cost for them. I bet we would be in for a big surprise of how many parts would work.

View attachment 8207 much larger then the 500s
From what I can see (in the parts diagram from my previous link) this is the only difference in size where the 500 has a cover on this side of the differential. Even the part numbers match, except for that part of the case and that looks to be maybe 3-4 inches larger? I don't have one to look at also, I will have to take your word for the size difference.

correct the extra length would kill that axel shorting it that much and if you extended it you would lose the 50" clearence

My thought was to someone like me that doesn't do a whole lot of off roading currently, it would help me out more if I did something stupid. I see some of the things people can do in the 500 and I am amazed. I just wanted that extra safety net.
