It looks like it will be much easier to do on the 520.

I checked the valve clearance on my Rancher after about 50 hours because it seemed noisy to me.

They were within spec, so I wasted a couple of hours.
No, now you know its not to tight or to loose peace of mind for a great engine

I'm really not sure if valve adjustments are needed every 600 miles.
Over the years I have had 6 different Honda's , ATV's and SXS'S, I have never adjusted valves on any of them and never had issues.
Some of the machines had over 3,000 miles on them.
(Just saying).

It depends on so many factors.

How hard the engine was worked, RPMs and loads.

The environment the engine is being used in, temp, dust.

And also engine maintenance, oil changes, air filters.

I did the valve adjustment on mine at just over 1000 km. Valve clearance was on the loose side. I think Honda sets them all loose from factory for break in and peace of mind. Keep in mind that as the seats and valve faces wear the clearances will get tighter. I seriously doubt any of the dealers do the service right after break in as advised by manual. Either way it’s done until next time…
