Honda engineers spend large sums of money developing and testing lube oils for their products that are compatible with Honda engines, DCT transmissions, and clutches under all conditions. Honda provides the product warranty and sands behind their reputation and products.
Why do so many members choose oils designed for use in diesel engines and other products that do not include clutches? Diesel engines are as different as night and day from out little small displacement gasoline engines.
I've trusted Honda enough to buy four new motorcycles, two new cars, and two new atvs from them over many years. I trust their advice about engine oils to use in their products also.
It seems simple to me. What am I missing?
I think you got it right, not missing anything.
The problem is oil brands are a type of religion.
People get to using a brand for one reason or another and stop asking why.
I have a favorite motor oil.
Years ago there was a magazine that did a test and showed it had the best resistance to breakdown of the flavors tested.
But, was there test the appropriate method to test breakdown? (Breakdown is the ability of the molecular chains to resist breaking and going from long chains to short (sorry not a real petroleum engineer) ).
But dose my favorite oil make the jump from my '85 Toyota mini-truck (vehicle I had when I saw the article) to a modern SxS (with an ATV engine in it)?
I'm sure if you asked a real honda engineer they would dismiss my favorite flavor of motor oil and point you to the same information
