Does anyone know if the PK1-3 gas shock is the same as the 5 seater? The beds are not the same, but i wasnt sure about the gas shock. I want to upgrade my shock, but would like to clarify first if anyone has any idea. thanks

Partzilla.com shows
2019 1000-3 as 74820-HL4-A51
2019 1000-5 as 74820-HL4-A01

Scrolling thru the fitment thread partzilla.com shows the 1000-5 fitment 2019-2022 and 1000-3 fitment as 2018-2022. My brain logic says they are probably the same dimensionally but have two different lifting forces to compensate for the 1000-5 seat/bed weight.

Someone else with more OEM knowledge might be able to give more insight.

Raise the bed full height, then measure the strut from top to bottom, center to center of the fittings. That's how you order. The 1000 5 is 593 mm length, which is 23.34 inches.

Multiply your measurement in whole numbers x 25.400 for millimeters.
I'd believe the same mount fittings I used, would apply..
See post # 10.
Use a strap from rear roll bar to bed, to hold box up, remove old strut.
Screw the new fittings on by hand until snug or at 45 degree angles.
You want these fittings to have movement, not tightened.
Install the bottom first, Locktite.
I then used my shoulder to push up the box slightly to insert the top.
Tighten equally, remove strap.

I wouldn't replace the original with another oem. JMO.

PM me your measurement if you want help for ordering this aftermarket strut.

I must ask the unasked question, what goes up must eventually come back down to it's locked position. Has anyone has any issues getting their bed back down and locked with a stronger piston?
Only a beta male would say 'yes' to that ... :)
I have heard of no such issues.

You best start a thread and post some pics of your 1000-5 or you'll be in violation of Rule #4! POIDH!

Welcome from MI.

Takes a bit more grunt to lock, but a reasonable trade off.

So I either have to grunt trying to open it with a load or grunt trying to close it after the load is dumped.
I haven't changed mine but I don't think it'd be that bad to bring back down, the bed's a lot easier to close from the rear grabbing both rails on the sides vs bringing it down from one side.

By the way welcome to the club from South Florida, start a intro thread and post some pics of your buggy 👍

I just did this install last week and to be honest it wasn't much if any harder to close than it was before the install.
Also, thank you guys so much for posting all of this information. Super helpful, and I was in here lurking before I became a member. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Just checked my strut on my 1000-3 as it is anemic at best and feels like it barely lifts the box. Rating is only 580N. Part number seems to align to the part number above for the 1000-3. Even upgrading to the 1000-5 strut is 55% more force according to @Dirtstiffs-1000 original post of 900N.

I tried to look up the Stabilus #842491 with no luck, to verify specs. I'm surprised that Honda didn't just use the same strut unless the extended length is different as well as the force, as I haven't pulled a measurement on mine yet.

Just order what I did. It will fit and you won't be disappointed. Pm me if you need help confirming measurements and your order.
Don't burn more calories and money, buying another oem strut.

I just measure mine, and it's measures 25.75" center to center with the box fully extended. The 270mm strut extends to 24.8" but jumps from (250mm) $38 to (270mm) $52. The 300mmm strut extends to 27.25" and is only $40. I'll probably buy that one as the box will extend to full height before the rod strokes out. Jumping from 580NM of force to 1280NM will be quite the improvement.

300mm seems too long, it may likely work, but you will have to compress the strut to get it installed, which will prove to be difficult...
Or, you may have to remove the bump stops to lay the bed back further.
I had to push my box up a tad to mount mine.

Make sure you are adding the fitting length in your calculation on the new order.

My 2018 P1000-5
593 mm = ( 23.346") overall length with the fittings.

I Ordered the following -
** 10-23-250(stroke), steel strut- 1250 Newton force.
** 1 - M8 X 30 mm elbow ball fitting- top
** 1 - M8 X 18mm elbow ball fitting - bottom

I did add the fittings as I worked off of your configuration to start with. I didn't take into consideration the collapsed height of the 300mm stroke, so it may be too long in that regard relative to the existing setup. The force adder above my OEM is the biggest benefit I am looking for, not so much maxing my lift height too.

Got my strut in today and got it installed by myself in around 15 minutes. Easy peasy!

One tip was that I just used a jack stand to hold the bed up while I swapped them out.

My bed wouldn’t open at all without me helping it. Swapped out to the one listed and works like a champ now. Can close it one handed but takes a little effort.
