The other day we were riding behind our house taking our kids looking for deer tracks. The land we have is a gravel pit. As we were driving along a dried up area of spot that typically holds water, we hit a soft spot and got stuck. It was stuck in red clay with gravel. We had to pull it out with a chain. The mud was only up to right below the bottom of the doors. When we got it out we went and sprayed everything off immediately with the pressure washer. Now, when we drive it, it has a long delay before it will go when giving it gas. Also, it has a lot of trouble shifting into 3rd and 5th gear. Sometimes we have to completely let off the throttle to get it to shift into the next gear. The rpms just keep going up if not. What could be wrong? We have tried doing to hard reset on the computer for the clutch and it never clears it out. It just stays stuck with MT & AT on the screen. It won't just show one.

If you're doing the relearn correctly and it's not working, your clutches are toast. What year is it?

Definitely sounds like you burnt up the starter clutch pack, it controls gears R, 1,3, & 5 hence the high rpm in those gears, clutch doesn't hold.

Honda updated the design in July 2017 and had an update campaign that has now expired. If your machine was manufactured after August 2017 it has the more robust design. That said if it's an original 2016 or 2017 model that wasn't updated, not difficult to mess it up. If you have the updated clutch or 2018 and newer model someone really had to abuse it to burn up that clutch.

It's a 2018 model. We don't ride it hard. We bought it used from a man who used it for hunting. We use ours for riding gravel roads and deer leases. We don't mud bog or anything like that.

All it takes is one time for the clutch to start shipping and its over.

If the wheels arent moving and the engine rpm is increasing, something is spinning and its the most likely the clutch.

That's the question - you're not a mudder, but you got stuck in mud once. And if you were revving the engine trying to get out, but you weren't turning the tires, you probably burned up your clutch pack.

About $300 to replace if you diy, guides here on the forum.

Yes, the tires were not moving unless you gave it a lot of gas. Then they would move a little. It was thick packed clay mud. I was just hoping it wasn't nothing too expensive. Glad it is probably the clutch and not the transmission. I will try to find the guide on replacing the clutch. Thanks for the help

That's probably what it was then. Because the tires weren't moving.

If you ever find yourself in that situation again, the first rule is to stop and get out of high range if you're bogging the motor, before you can start to spin the clutch.

Then try low range, and if you're slipping the clutch even a little bit, stop and winch.

Using low seems to stop slot of those issues to begin with, good advice.

Here's the guide. Read the whole thing, and note that there are a few little parts you'll want to buy that are not in the first post, mentioned later.
