I’ve been researching rear bumpers for a while now for my 2020 Pioneer 1000-5, and would like to get some info from you guys. From searching, I have found the Bad Dawg, EMP, HMF, Honda, KFI, Strong Made and SuperATV. Have I missed any?

I would like something that is reasonably durable. I think I would rather have something that attaches to the frame, not the bed. Although I’m guessing bed mounted would eliminate any bed tilt or tailgate interference, I’m wondering if a good hit could damage the bed more so than a frame mount.

I would want to be able to FULLY open the bed, tailgate, and both the tailgate and bed at the same time, without any interference with the bumper. Not sure if this is even an issue, but a bumper that will not interfere with the trailer hitch. I was able to get some of this info on some of these brands, but nothing from others or conflicting info.

I have found that the Honda attaches to the bed and have read some reviews that the SuperATV brand will not allow the bed to open completely. Also looks like HMF does not make one for the 5-seater.

Thank you in advance for any info, the good, bad and ugly, would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the Pioneer so don’t have much experience with accessories for it.

I have a 2016 P1K-3 with a Honda rear bumper which attaches differently than the P1K-5. It still attaches to the bed however. Mine has been on at least 6 years and no problems. Thankfully I have never needed it. I got it,"just in case".

This is mine with a simple Honda accessory bumper. relatively inexpensive, easy to install, doesn't interfere with dump bed or tailgate, and is light in weight.

I have the JEI. It also attaches to the bed. It pivots with the bed so the bed and tailgate are both fully functional. The downside is you also have to buy their steel tailgate for it to properly open. I needed a little bit heavier tailgate anyway so it didn't matter to me. I had great experience with CS but I know some haven't.

SuperATV. I like the protection it offers for my rear winch and the air flow it allows around my HMF. Doesn't seem beefy enough for recovery off those shackles though

Here's my approach, although I do have to undo two wing-nuts to remove jack when dumping bed (which I rarely do), tailgate opens with no interference. This was more about a place to carry the jack conveniently than it was about adding a bumper, though it works both ways.

Can we get some more pictures of this? I've been thinking this is the way to go.
I have a 2022 1000-5 and I wanted to keep the dump function. My neighbor had some 2" pipe laying around that matches the OEM roll cage closely.
We fabbed a tab to fit behind the upper roll cage bolts, dropping it to accommodate the dump bed with the tailgate down. 5" in height, and welded a 4" length of 2" pipe for the attachment to the fame, just outside the exhaust bracket, and a strip of 1/4" plate for rigidity along the back of the bracket.

The top horizontal is 4" from the frame, the lower indents an 1" to follow the muffler profile. Length is 48" on the upper horizontal and 36" on the lower trying to follow the esthetics of the tailgate. I cut a small 15" step into the lower pipe, added 1/4" flat plate and added non-skid tape as a step. I added 1/2' solid round bar from Home Depot to the outside of the 1/4" plate to save shins... :)

I added another 2" receiver channel (because I had it laying around and it was a PERFECT fit) between the lower horizontal pipe and a 2" receiver hitch extender, to bring the trailer hitch further out from the frame for access. I welded 2 tabs to use the hitch pin to connect the bottom of the bumper to the frame for rigidity.

We used a small plasma cutter for the pipe saddles; die grinder with 1/2" carbide burr to clean up the welds; a grinder with cutter and flap wheels to roughing in; a pipe sander attachment on the grinder to remove the splatter; and an old Lincoln Stick welder to fab this.

Hopefully the pics do better justice than my half assed attempt of explaining.

Ranch Armor makes a good looking bumper. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, it's expensive.
