Anyone read how the reverse works on the P5? I see there is a lever you have to pull. Only seen a slight picture of it. Nothing up close.
I assume it will then allow you to down shift. Kinda like the Red (R) button on the manual Honda ATV's.
Anyone confirm or have more info on this?

Saw it somewhere...
You go down to 1st or neutral, pull the lever, and then downshift...if i recall properly.

So, I that makes the reverse gear part of the main transmission and not a sub transmission.

It would have to be part of the main.

I guess it could have a gear that meshes with a sub trans only when you downshift from first with the lever in the correct position. Like the PTO on some truck trans, It could go out the side, but I don't see how it would then control the drive shafts.

Prob same setup at the 500 class ATV it's borrowed from, why try something new when you can use something that you know works and change a bit of linkage.

Using the left paddle (down-shifter), shift down to neutral, pull the lever in the center of the dash, shift down once more.

Compared to the forward gearing. What gear could you compare reverse to?
Hopefully second or third as first would be way tooooo slow.
Thanks.

Ok,

Here are the gear ratios for the 500 Pioneer.

Low 4.230
2nd 2.388
3rd 1.608
4th 1.178
5th 0.848 (overdrive !)

Reverse 5.743

4.077 both front & rear differentials

So reverse is lower than even the ultra low 1st gear - That was not my driving impression, I will have to experiment with that more today.

Looking for reverse top speed and does it gear out or rev out.
Thanks.

Ok, we tried this a couple times with a GPS - both times 5.9mph and its definitely on the rev limiter.
