Got the Mtx mudsys46 sound bar. Looking to add some bass to the system. What options are out there that is available for under seat? Ive seen the wet sounds 8” box that ragnor installed but is there anything else that will work? JBL custom box is $900, no thank you. TIA

JL Audio has one but its pricey. Cheapest Ive seen it for was $829 OTD. Im sure someone on this forum has done something similar for way less.

I just completed my install this past weekend of the Wet Sounds AS-8 under the seat and I will say I am extremely impressed with the sound paired with the Wet Sounds 10 surge sound bar. I was hoping to fit the AS-10 under the seat, but that was not happening. The sub makes a great addition and the sound is great for SXS. I do not know how it will perform with water, but will find out this weekends as I will be taking it to the mud holes.

Update? Did the sub survive? I am considering the same sub and location, but hesitant. The box under seat isn't sealed, and from what I have been reading it get's pretty hot under the seats. BTW, where did you mount your Surge 10 and any chance of some pics?

I didn’t want to pay the 800-900 for a single sub and enclosure under the seat. I bought a Rockford fosgate marine 12 for about $120 that came with a good looking grill. I built My own enclosure for the center of floor board. Fiberglassed it them bondo to smooth it all out then rattle can bed liner Spray on inside and outside. My pioneer thinks it’s a low rider at a car show. Figure I have about $200 in it after all materials. I’ll try posting some build pictures

The sub is awesome and survived multiple trips through the mud and water. You are correct the box under the seat is not sealed, but the sub enclosure is. I have had no issues with heat impacting it either. I was out for 4 hours riding in SW Florida with no issues. Yes the sub is under my seat as I am driving through the water. I have a friend that has the Wet Sounds AS-10 sitting on the floor board in the middle that has not been impacted by water or out driving conditions. They are awesome!!!

What is the process called that first takes it from a wooden box to the grey/smoothed corners? How are you applying the fibreglass and bondo?

And then the second process to make it black? Just the bed liner spray?

I will look up some how to videos on YouTube because I would love to be able to build custom boxes like that!

Thanks

I’m not sure of any real name for it, I just built the box out of 3/4” mdf then rounded the corners with a electric rotating sander To my liking. It rounded them pretty easily. Auto zone sells a fiberglass resin that I smeared over the complete outside of the box. It dried like concrete. I put it on thin as possible due to it was tough to sand down to a smooth finish. While it is drying take a 5 in 1 painters tool and cut/scrap off any edges you will have to sand off later. I then applied a thin coat of auto body filler (bondo) just to make it look smooth/slick again. The bondo is easy to sand. The black color is just the bed liner material.

you will need more of the fiberglass stuff than you expect. I had to made a second trip to auto zone to get more. I think I ended up using two quarts?

Where the speaker wires cone out just calk that area.

If I had it to do again I would put the speaker on more of a angle, tilting it more for water run off.

Scott5150, cool Picts!

I took mine last weekend to red creek mud park in south Ms. went through some deep ass water. After about 4 hours of pressure washing when I got home I changed my fluids. The sub trans fluid was full of water. If you haven’t vented yours yet, I would drain it and refill as soon as possible.

I know this is an old thread , but when you say you would have angled it what direction are you talking about? I am assuming you would angle it to the front of the machine?
