Now to get to the issue of the tear drop trailer. Our trusty camper for over 2,000 miles of cross country trekking. It is finished, bouncing over rough rocky terrain has done it in. I’ll salvage the doors, inverter, lights, vent and solar panel for something else, knock the box off and convert it to a small utility trailer for around the ranch….
I wish that the people that make bona fide overlanding trailers made something for the SXS world. Need to keep the weight not over 1,000 lbs…..

What I need is a trailer with no axle and long travel suspension and no wood in its construction and I may have found something. The Boony Stomper….

I've been reading the posts and enjoying the photographs. This looks like a very well planned and executed adventure. I would have enjoyed participating.

Will there be another one next year?

How about an after trek report?

How far did you travel each day? Number of driving hours each day?

What range of speeds?

Was the "dry" arroyo with apparently hard crust and deep mud underneath the only hazard?

Any rock or steep climbs?

Were auxiliary fuel tanks required?

Were tents or tear drop campers required? (No nearby lodging each niht?)

Overnight low temps?

Any breakdowns other than the tear drop trailer failure?

Interesting facts?

Lessons learned?

I believe the lowest temp we had was 43° on our first night near columbine camp ground. And yes we all had tents. We stayed 4 nights total in the tents. 2 going and 2 coming. With 2 nights in motel in moab

We 1000s definitely had to take 5 gallons extra gas, this was a great ride from the dusty dirt roads 1st day , smooth climbs. Rocky climbs beautiful overlooks. Most of the challenges came on the side trails, and of course the sand flats in moab

We had a good rain while in moab, so the return trip was really perfect weather. The hanging flume was a great sight. Amazing. I would have loved to see exactly how the feat was accomplished

The miners need a steady flow of water for their operations and built this aqueduct system to supply it. Quite a feat for the time. In the third picture is a 30’ or 40’ section of the actual flume that has been reconstructed as the original was also wood and rotted and disappeared many moons ago.

No, the dust was a major problem for those not in the lead, the night riding along a precipice trying to make camp presented a potential hazard, and the 5 hours lost attempting to summit La Sal pass forced a quicker pace the rest of the day in an attempt to make camp before dark which did in the tear drop camper…

@Montecresto …. I have I guy who rebuilds those trailers….. I think you are right in taking lessons learned from that one and possibly going to another design….. but he might be interested in buying yours as a scrapper and rebuilding it for himself…..
let me know before you salvage it out….. he is busy on a project right now but should answer me in a few days……..

No break downs, but several Pioneer 1000’s did overheat on several climbs, especially the last day on the very steep Rocky Jeep trail. The tear drop was left chained to a post at the Colorado/Utah state line campground which I had to return to and retrieve after the ride concluded in Montrose.

I refueled In Nucla on the second day with 3.3 gals used on the first day……I made it to Moab without any other refueling and had a gallon left…..
on the return trip we had ”several” interesting side trips due to road rebuilding in the La Sals…they were moving and clearing some timber from the pack creek fire…..
so I had to use some reserve…. I took six gallons and would probably only take my 3.5 gallon next time…..
of course you have to avoid the “night rides” that @Montecresto is famous for……..
