I'm no trailer expert nor am I a math-a-magician, but the tandem axle 14' Rance aluminum trailer with electric brakes I cited earlier only weighs 1,225#. That's 300# less than your PJ SA steel trailer with the 5K single axle, but it has a significantly higher GWVR (7,000#) and payload capacity (5,775#) than yours (4,995#/3,420#).

Limiting himself to 3,500#, that Rance TA trailer gives him 300# more room than the PJ SA steel trailer.

And the 16' trailer is only 60# heavier than the 14' trailer.
Trailer matters not one iota with a 3500 towing capacity no mater how you slice it was the point of my post.

Talon x4 plus trailer = maxed out by the time you add passengers, accessories, tools, and a cooler on a meager 3500 tow capacity.

3500 towing capacity
1225 trailer
1800 buggy
That leaves ~500# for him and his gear.

Again, your SA trailer would leave him LESS weight left to tow/haul vs the 14' aluminum TA.

You said, "... the ONLY option that even has a chance of working is an aluminum 14’ single axel trailer WITH Brakes for an 1000x4…period." But math says that's not completely accurate. The 14' SA aluminum trailer provides nearly the exact same capacity due to it's lower GWVR and towing capacity as the '14 TA aluminum with a 3500# limit on the Jeep.

But ... yea ... the Jeep is his biggest obstacle, regardless of trailer.

It doesn’t have to be heavy to be strong 5200 pound axle 14’ x 7’ and it weighs under 600 pounds ( built not bought ) I still need to paint it

Where did I say my trailer was better? I showed what I have, a 1000x on a 14’ trailer, I never said it was better. If you want to talk longevity, cost and the such…that’s another story..

Congrats on the math…but…500# is not enough to cover gear, passengers etc. A pair of burly dudes in a Jeep will kill that number on its own.

My point with the word “period” in the context presented was that aluminum trailer was the generally the best option for maximizing available tow capacity.

Simmer down, sunshine. All I'm saying is your statement of "the ONLY option that even has a chance of working is an aluminum 14’ single axel trailer WITH Brakes for an 1000x4…period." is simply NOT true.

My point with the word “period” in the context presented was that aluminum trailer was the generally the best option for maximizing available tow capacity.

That is generally correct. But in his situation (3,500 towing capacity), he could go with a tandem aluminum axle trailer, and it will only be 60# worse off than the same aluminum trailer in a single axle. Then, when he upgrades his tow vehicle, he'll be in FAR better shape than a SA trailer.

I then agreed with you on the Jeep is his biggest obstacle, regardless of trailer.

always wanted to build one like that (rail trailer) - looks awesome - pretty efficient......

rolled my own - built not bought - all aluminum except for axle subframe - 639#'s for trailer before I took the heavy trailer flooring out and replaced with 3/16" aluminum sheet.........probably have close to $1200 into it between trailer kit, scrap aluminum, and lots of 3/8" grade 8 hardware (I cant weld aluminum - outta talent) - these trailers don't need to be expensive or heavy, I could only scrounge up 1/4"X2"x2" square tube - so overbuilt for what it is -

Hello all! I am a complete newbie to the sxs world, and I need your help. We are picking up a Talon 1000X4 soon and need advice on what type of trailer you all recommend. Getting completely overwhelmed with all the info online. Doesn't need to be too fancy to start as we won't be trailering it often. The towing capacity of my Jeep is 3500#.

Thanks in advance!
hi - congrats on getting into a paddle slapping fun machine - awesome

trailer purchases can get overwhelming, possibly you can borrow\rent a trailer to get it home and then take your time to decide if you are going to need a trailer moving forward and the type - as long as it fits on the trailer there is no bad option.

I never even thought about towing capacity but I also have a 4 seat JK jeep - just kinda backed up to the loaded trailer with a 2 seat X loaded and it pulled\towed just fine - never gave it a thought there was a weight limit on the jeep - lol

Nice work.
I’ve got around $500 in my trailer.
