Got to go out on an adventure with my oldest boy. We went up Dry Creek just outside of Superior, MT. We planned on trying to go from our house to a place called Silver Lake which is on the Montana Idaho border. Well someone *cough* me *cough, cough* forgot to download the offline map for OnX. Needless to say we rode around for most the day without arriving at our destination. We actually ended up riding 112 miles and conducted a small raid into Idaho! We adapted and overcame by finding a secluded camp site with stream access and plenty of downed timber for the boy to snag. We spooked up a couple of cow moose and calves on the ridge line which was a fun treat. DAS MOOSE fulfills the prophecy. We also enjoyed drinking high mountain snow melt from the run off with our LifeStraw. Cold and refreshing for sure! A cheesy potatoe and mule deer burger skillet for dinner followed by a few hours of Blackjack. Overall a good overnight ride. Next week I take the missus out scouting huckleberries and the weekend after the youngest boy gets his overnight adventure.
The 700-4 did great. Like I said we covered 112 miles including around 4,000 feet of elevation gain. Tempratures stayed stable the entire time and nothing failed. There was a little hard start up that high but by giving a little throttle the engine fired right off. The machine does have a little squeal now that happens at low speeds and only when applying throttle. I'm sure it's dust related but I'm not sure if it's the brake pads. Either way I'm going to try and blow the dust off everything and evaluate. The seat did get hot which reminded me to order the dang Trigger Shield already! But once we kicked open the windshield and let the air blast in we cooled down nicely. The only other mechanical quirk was learning which way to ride the throttle between 2nd and 3rd gear when pulling up steep roads.
