Pioneer 500 valve seal was burnt, cylinder worn pretty good, side of piston scraped the cylinder on both sides. The rod has no up and down play but the side to side seems excessive o measured .020. I cannot find any specs on what it should be. Thanks allot!

Thats sounds about right, I can check the shop manual on my laptop when I get back from dinner. How about a pic of the machine & the story on how it failed? Normally the P5 is dang near bullet proof unless severely abused

The manual doesn't call out side to side clearance on the rod, I imagine this is because it comes as an assembly from Honda. Really, side to side (axial) play is normal, as long as you don't have radial end play it'll be fine.

Thats sounds about right, I can check the shop manual on my laptop when I get back from dinner. How about a pic of the machine & the story on how it failed? Normally the P5 is dang near bullet proof unless severely abused
the story is it was smoking like crazy, still ran great, clearly oil smoke and loss of oil. the exhaust was dripping with oil, they continue to run the machine with the excessive smoking thinking oil filled the exhaust when it flipped. They switched exhausts to see and still the same. Finally Too many complaints they finally stopped using it. I got there checked all the basics , they told me it was low on oil many times. So I suspected it probably got too hot and possibly cooked valve seal/possibly rings.. So I looked at the exhaust valve it was super caked up as of it was dripping and I didn’t think rings would push up that much oil, taking a closer look the cylinder has a huge upper lip can be easily felt, as well as two pretty worn half piston marks on each side of the cylinder towards the bottom with scrape marks all the way up from each side of the piston around both sides of the wrist pin. this machine is only a few years old it runs tours on a giant ranch that’s a complete incline down to the ocean up to like 2000ft elevation. Running all week. Got a new complete head and cylinder+piston. Just wasn’t sure about that play in the rod.

That piston has eaten alot of dirt, the dull skirts are a tale tell. Thats also the reason for the accelerated cylinder wear. I'm surprised it had enough ring seal to run. Bet the air filter is garbage.

The cylinder damage is from lack of oil, surprised there isnt piston damage from heat melting it to the cylinder. Probably due to the amount of clearance in the cylinder.

I'd say the crank is junk due to the wrist pin side of the rod being damaged.
