Installing an (indirect) early Christmas present from the wife - a backup camera! Woohoo. This project is a little more complicated....pics and whole story on the way when I get done.

haha... Some of us talked about using them on our 700's and a second on the passenger side as a "spotter" cam.

Here are some pics. Backup cam Install is complete. I drilled a 1.5 inch access/maintenance hole on the inside of the tailgate and another in the tailgate support rod. The wires will run inside the support rod.

Plugging the access hole with a automotive-style frame hole plug.

I wired the 12 volt power supply to a switch so the camera would be viewable even during forward motion in drive. The camera is designed to be activated while being wired to the cars reverse taillights. Obviously, Whiskey does not have reverse lights as an oem feature. The camera also folds down when switched off.

As another note I partially unbolted the skid plate to hide and protect all wires leading to the camera on the tailgate.

This was originally gifted for the step son from his mother, but he totalled his car after it was purchased and just days ago. What he really needs is assistance with driving forward lol.

Which camera set up is this?

Of the ones I have read reviews
for, I didn't find any that I thought
were very good.

Nice Job.

You could get one that displays the image in the rear view mirror. That would be cool.

John - This is the unit I installed. It works well, however, I opted not to install the 4 back-up warning sensors that came with the SPY. I didn't think this was necessary on Whiskey, but would rather invest in a good rear bumper.

I'm thinking about putting a camera in the same position you have yours. How are you liking it? Does it offer you enough added view (over a rear view mirror)? I was also thinking about getting one that can point 45 degrees down so that I could see more of the bumper for close parking/turns.

The other place I have seen people mount this is to the top of the review ROPS. Even with a 45 model I don't think that would be able to see that close to the back.
