I have a travellers 4500 winch and am wanting to do away with the giant wired switch it came with. I have a small rocker winch switch that I want to control the winch with. The problem is that the winch came with no solenoid or relay. Looks like the switch was beefed up to carry the load but I know the little rocker switch will not handle the load without a solenoid. Is there a certain one that I would need for a 4500 winch? Has anyone else added a rocker switch to a travellers winch?

You can purchase the solenoids from Superwinch and warn, just buy one for a 4500# winch. Most have the wiring directions on line too.

Is there a reason you want the rocker switch? I chose not to add one as it's unnecessary with the plug in remote. I have one that you can have from my superwinch.

Do you have the wireless remote option? if not what does the giant wired switch look like?

This is the rockers I used for the winch. I find it convenient to be able to use a switch on the dash without digging for a remote.

There is winch power and winch in/out

I would go with a winch wiring kit and replace the switch with a rocker. A kit will come with wiring needed to go to the battery. As other have said,a rocker on the dash is handy for a quick use,and a plug for a hand held switch is good if your plowing. Then there is wireless remotes that can be used. All of the above will require at least a winch solenoid in place of your big arse switch. heres a link to a kit .

I bought the same winch and did away with the big switch. I'll see if I can find the list of things I used to replace that and send it to you, maybe some pics too
That would be very helpful.

Any way to wire a rocker switch in on dash and still be able to use switch that came with my Honda warn winch kit?

Just split them off and to the rocker switch.

There should be 3 wires.
Red is hot.
Run that to the source of the rocker (usually center) and then other 2 are for the outputs for IN or OUT. You will need to test before finishing it up to see if in/out is reversed.

All, assuming you have the common winch in/out switch.

I have the Honda warn winch kit. I think the wires are black, green and brown from switch to winch solenoid.

Also, moved my main power lead for winch solenoid from main battery to my auxiliary battery. Will there be any back feed from key on to switch harness on the Honda winch harness?
