12,063 miles now. The shift cable wouldn't shift into low range at 11,777 miles. I needed low range so I lifted the seat and moved the shift lever into low range. The cable support tube came loose so it wouldn't support the cable allowing it to shift into low range. Installed a new $30.00 shift cable. At 12,063 miles the Exhaust mount rubber broke. Ordered the $5.00 part. I don't run the engine covers on my Pioneer. Super happy with the Pioneer. All 8 of my belt drive side by sides had lots of expensive repairs plus the belt drive maintenance and complete replacement on my Polaris models. I just hated being towed in 7 times.

How hard was it to replace that shift cable? Mine has done the same thing. I'm right around 4000 miles. I keep popping it back in place but it's kind of annoying.

AppleCreek Its a real PITA to change and I doubt yours has separated at that low mileage. Make sure the cable tube has separated from the cable housing. It will move a bit but not away from the cable housing. You may just need a cable adjustment. I would check to see if its centered in neutral. The adjustment is below the battery. There is an access plate under the battery.

I tried the cable adjustment, several times. I was able to adjust it enough to get it to go into low, but it was waaaay off centered in neutral to do it. Then it was tough to get in the any of the right gears. That's when I dug around to see where the other end of the cable went. When I found it under the seat I noticed the front drive shaft was shiny from the cable rubbing on it. the cable was bowing up against it. When I pushed down on it I could feel something "pop" back in and the cable went from arched to kind of flatter. So I reached down and grabbed that rubber housing and I could feel what I assume is a plastic tube inside it that I could shift back and forth It would kind of pop back in place when I moved it towards the passenger side. But its not being held in by much. Its not on the cable housing side, its on the side towards the shift lever on the subtransmission.

Order a new cable and the shop manual may have good info on the replacement. There is a access cover above the drive shaft tunnel and you will see the cable as it goes under the floor. I had to loosen the air intake tube to get the cable out. The adjust nuts need more room. Take some pictures before you remove the cable. With a normal adjust its ok to drive it and if you need low range just remover the seat and shift into low by hand. It sucks to see one fail at low range. I use low range a lot when I go through gates or on low speed crawling.

It sucks to see one fail at low Mileage. The tube is steel and you may be able to hold it to the cable housing side with a large magnet to get by until you can install a new cable. You might have to cut the rubber boot slightly for a magnet to work.

Is that steel tube pressed in or glued in or how is it held in place?

Its crimped into the housing and will move a bit but not back and forth. It doesn't hurt to drive but you will have to shift it into low range by hand when you need low. All other gear positions shift ok.
